The case of the three UCLA basketball players arrested in China on suspicion of shoplifting has officially caught the eye of President Donald Trump, who personally asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help resolve the case, according to the Washington Post.

Trump was on a two-day state visit to Beijing, part of a five-nation tour of in Asia, three days after UCLA freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested for allegedly stealing sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton store. ESPN reported last Friday that police have surveillance footage of the trio committing the crimes in three stores in the high-end shopping center. The three players remained in Hangzhou during the team’s season-opening win against Georgia Tech in Shanghai and did not fly home with the team.

Not happy that President Trump intervened on behalf of these future felons but I guess he had to or be accused of being a racist again.

He only asked that the case be prioritized, IIUC, not that an amnesty be granted. Otherwise the Chinese legal system could take months.

I hope this incident doesn’t affect their studies back at UCLA!

Let the perps believe that they’ll never leave China.

Should have let these ass clowns serve hard time in a Chinese prison. You don’t go to another country and steal from them. These kids are millionaires they stole because they thought they were entitled

I think it’s ok. He only asked that it be resolved. They’ve been in the pokey for a week, and I bet they were wondering IF and WHEN they’d be back. That’s good for them. I bet they’ll have consequences at UCLA too.

I know, right? They probably would not even let them have their text books available. Its like they are in prison...

Imagine the nerve of the Chinese. They think stealing is some kind of crime.

Asking that it be looked into is hardly “intervening”.

Personally I think the three would benefit greatly from a little time in a Chinese prison. Might straighten them out.

I wonder where the safe space is in a Chinese prison?

Next to the kidney removal room?

I think they are confined to the hotel, not "in the pokey."

“They’ve been in the pokey for a week...”

They’ve been restricted to the rooms they were in at the team hotel, IIUC. Real durance vile, that...

I went to UCLA back in the ‘60s but I stopped watching any of their sports years ago. Can’t relate the thugs-in-training which is what most college athletes appear to have become.

Sad, but it was a different world fifty years ago.

Public canings for all 3. The red Chinese must exact some punishment or they’ll be disgraced.

I want to see the tall thieves crying on YouTube.
