How Free Are You?

Do you still think you are free?

What happens if you live off-grid?

If you live independent of utilities, water, and sewer, and provide your own energy through solar panels, have your own sewer system, and use rainwater, you may run into problems with your local government. Robin Speroni of Cape Coral, Florida, was sued by local officials that her off-grid home was illegal, citing the International Property Maintenance Code. She was found guilty of not being hooked to the water supply.

“Speroni is still being hassled by the municipality of Cape Coral for not having a connection to city water or property sewage. This is in spite of the fact that the city capped her sewers themselves.”

I’ve left you alone for a while, blogpimp, but I bet I’m slightly more free in northern Colorado than you are in Canada.

I’m not doing too much right now.

Is there a game of Capture The Flag starting up?

We live very remotely and none of these services are offered to us and we have zero problem with any government agencies.

We have a large modern home with all the creature comforts with no power poles or plowed roads within miles. We actually produce at least twice the power we need.

Wow. That’s what you get for living in town, I guess.

If the tax bill passes, we could be a little freer.
In order to claim a personal exemption for a child on your income tax, your kid has to have a SS#.
Since removing the personal exemption is part of the tax package, your kid wont need a SS# until they decide to get a payroll job, like the good old days.

if they do not offer service then they cannot hold you accountable for not having it. If the city capped her line I would believe that it was because her side of the hookup was not acceptable or she had refused to put the sewer system in to their hookup point at the edge of her property.

Probably less free than the founders were went they decided they’d had enough.
