Ultimately, company is expected to create total of 110 additional jobs

ROANOKE, Va. - A $10 million investment and 50 new jobs are coming to Roanoke.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced Tuesday afternoon that Humm Kombucha, a kombucha tea company, will be opening a facility in Roanoke.

Excitement is already brewing about Humm establishing its East Coast headquarters in Roanoke.

The company started looking at the Star City about four months ago and said Roanoke is the perfect place to grow the company.

Humm Kombucha is one of the fastest-growing kombucha companies in the country and is expected to have a $58 million annual economic impact in the region.

Ultimately, the company is expected to create a total of 110 additional jobs.

City and state leaders all came together for the announcement and said they hope bringing in this business will have a ripple effect.

"We got a whole new sector here and this Humm Kombucha, which is one of the fastest beverages in the country, it's great for Roanoke and it's great for the Commonwealth of Virginia so I want to get one business. Deschutes was important, but they are now recruiting other businesses," said McAuliffe.

A total of $10 million will be invested in a 100,000-square-foot facility on 12 acres in the Roanoke Centre for Industry & Technology.

I don’t exactly consider Wikipedia to be completely reliable, but it is interesting that their entry for Kombucha has 2 paragraphs on “health claims” and 4 paragraphs on “Adverse effects”.

Try water kefir. It’s extremely easy to make, relatively inexpensive, and has millions of beneficial yeasts and bacteria, like kombucha (especially if you do a double ferment), and it tastes delicious. It’s like soda, not like liquid yogurt (that’s dairy kefir). Dairy kefir is easy to make, too, and is delicious and versatile.
