Lets start with a rather uncontroversial statement: Its important to learn about the Holocaust, and Anne Franks diary is an excellent way to start. What seems more contentious, however, is the notion that it would be a good idea to dress up as one of the Holocausts most famous victims for Halloween.
One online costume retailer recently discovered the hard way just how offensive many people find that idea. HalloweenCostumes.com pulled an Anne Frank costume for girls off its website on Sunday after being criticized for putting it up in the first place.
It is utterly inappropriate, offensive and quite simply beggars belief. The Holocaust is not a jokethis company needs to have a serious rethink," Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust in the U.K., told The Jewish Chronicle.
Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, told Newsweek in an emailed statement: "We are glad the Anne Frank costume was removed from the catalogue, but its hard to believe that anyone thought this was an appropriate costume for Halloween. It shows we still have a long way to go in terms of educating people about what happened during the Holocaust, and why this unique event in human history should never be trivialized."
The costumewhich is still being sold elsewhere as a more generic World War II Evacuee Girl Fancy Dress Costume Girls and Child's World War II Girl Costumewas marketed on HalloweenCostumes.com as educational.....

Everyone should watch the clip of Jesse Watters and a black college professor, it is a real hoot!
An acquaintance’s 20 year old son was dressed up as a guy from the fifties, leather jacket, etc. Looked perfect.
I said he looked like the Fonz. He looked at me puzzled. I said you know, Arthur Fonzarelli. He replied, Who?
I felt old.
Best Halloween encounter I had was in the costume section at a Walgreens. A young boy and his dad were looking at costumes and the kid picked up an Øbama mask. The dad asked, “does that scare you?” And in a softer voice said, “it scares the hell out of me!”
True story
Sorry, Newsweek. Trayvon Martin was not the victim of a crime. He committed a crime by attacking George Zimmerman. Not to mention his crimes near his home in Miami.
Years ago I saw a guy dressed up in full SS regalia, complete with the crop in his hand, standing on the front lawn of a fraternity. I thought WTF!? Then I remembered it was Halloween.
Neither of our daughters-in-law ever heard of Roy Rogers. But Happy Days ran fro 1974-1984. So the last episode has been 33 years ago now. Not surprising that these people do not know the stars of old, just as I don’t know a good majority of the new stars.
Trayvon was NOT the victim.
Trayvon was the perp.
Roy Rogers rode Trigger.
Dale Evans rode _________?
I wasn’t surprised, I just felt old.
Did her pimp beat her up or something?
Also did you know that she had never ridden a horse before that show. They assumed being from Texas that she had. They arranged lessons for her and she become an expert rider.
JFK and Jackie costumes are still seen at Halloween. Often with some fake blood and the pink suit.
Apparently a New York Times writer wore such a costume for Halloween one year and threatened to go as Anne Frankenstein the following year.
