Freedom of Speech, is not the freedom to speak without consequences.

There is little doubt that civic’s education in the United States is at an all time low, in a recent poll, a full third of folks surveyed could not name a single branch of the federal government, and just over a 1/4 (26%) could name all three. It is not surprising, given this sad reality, that so few seem to understand the first amendment’s recognition of the freedom of speech, and what it pertains to.

Chuck Schumer who served on the Judiciary Committee does not know the three branches. How can you expect “folks” to know?

“So I would urge my Republican colleagues, no matter how strong they feel — you know, we have three branches of government: we have a House, the Senate, we have a President, and all three of us are going to have to come together and give some. But it is playing with fire to risk the shutting down of the government, just as it is playing with fire to risk not paying the debt ceiling.”

He might also believe that Guam could tip over. We are ruled by idiots.

I tell my kids this all the time. You’re free to say what you will, but people will judge you by what you say. Use your words carefully.

Liberals seem to thing that ‘Freedom of Speech” means they can run into a crowded theater and yell, ‘fire!’

...but that YOU should STFU about all and sundry!!

I agree with the I deserve it and you don’t mentality of liberals..

But this is a much deeper issue... far far far too many people don’t understand the constitutional or their own rights... which means we are all at risk of losing them permanently

I won’t argue that... we live in a time of ignorance... and its inexcusable... Never before has more information been available to more people, and yet, collectively never have more people been more ignorant.

Core problem is our advertising-driven entitlement-shoveling society subtly teaches people that “rights” are something you have “to” (at the expense of another), not “from” (which is the point of the BoR). They consider a “right to” healthcare little more than access to a natural resource; they consider a “right to” guns invalid possibly because it does not entail compelling others.

Agreed, the understanding that if someone else has to do something for you to have it, it isn’t a fundamental human right.... human rights are, they are inherent, they do not flow from others.. If other people must DO something for you to exercise it, it cannot be a fundamental human right.
