But smoking was a “public health” issue ...
But, this is a persuasion technique. Make an outrageous claim. That forces the audience to spend time justifying your very point - "Maybe not a third, I could buy a sixth...". End result? People argue about HOW right you are, rather than if you were even correct to begin with.
FWIW, I liked Playboy when I was a teenager and didn't know any better. Now, I think that Hef was a sad old man, who took advantage of his position.
Very good and thorough article. Recommended reading.
In 2010, 24% of Americans were under 18. Just for grins, let’s say 20% are under 16. So roughly 80% of 330 million Americans is 264 million people. If 110 million are infected, then 41.67% of all “adults” are infected.
The number seems a bit high.
Almost half of us have STD’s?
At his core, Hefner was a pimp.
Don’t forget Divorce!
Forgive the irreverence, but Hef is the Thomas Jefferson or George Washington of sexual liberation and maybe even of feminism, the slave-owner who led the revolution. So it’s no surprise that people don’t know what to do with him.
You combine that with Playboy, rejection of the Hayes Code in movies, the counter-culture rejection of traditional Christian values in the 1960s and it's a recipe for the disaster we're in today.
Dirty old rich man. Rich guy gets girls.....how odd!!!
Off topic, but can anyone explain why a 91 yo with e-coli and septicemia wasn’t in the hospital?
Back in 1962, there was no VD in our area. I heard older men brag about picking up some gal at Oklahoma and Kansas bars for fun and games.
That all changed after the Playboy Philosophy and sexual revolution hit! Fifteen years later everyone I know who picked up some skank at an Oklahoma bar always ended up with clap or crabs.
