We need to get the league off welfare too. They can build their own stadiums. We're subsidizing these thugs.

Sorry, ain't gonna happen. Nearly all cities operate the same corrupt way when it comes to things like stadiums and convention centers. It is too much effort for them to run such public facilities at a profit like any other business; and then save cash to build another facility in coming years. Teh cities and counties prefer instead to simply raise taxes and let some other entities lease/operate the facilities and profit from the concessions, etc.. Then evey 20 years go back to the taxpayers again and the stupid ass taxpayers vote for it because "the comuniity needs it".

The county and city governments have wired they system. I know by direct experience. When the Cincinnati Bengals wanted a new stadium in teh mid 1990's they threatened the City and County governments. Either build a new stadium or the Bengals would leave.

During the time the City and County were ramping up their campaign to sucker the taxpayers into voting for an additional tax, the city of Cincinnati stopped collecting rent from the Bengals in order to entice them to stay until they could fleece the taxpayers. The Cincinnati Reds found out about the secret deal with the city made with Bengals and also stopped paying rent. This went on for close to a decade. Since the city of Cincinnati was no longer collecting rent from the sports teams, they were no longer able to put money in the sinking fund required to maintain the old Riverfront Stadium. Of course the stadium became run down and needed lots of repair and became yet another excuse for the city and county to sell to the taxpayers that we a new stadium was needed. Of course they did not mention to the taxpayers that $20 million was missing from the sinking fund that was supposed to be used for repairs.

All of this was of course very illegal. You or me would have gone to prison. Me and a couple of friends put 2 and 2 together, researched the law and decided to bring suit. We got an injunction for opening day baseball that year, but the city judge shopped and fixed that. Also, the city attorneys first called the lead plaintinff on our side a racist skinhead on the local TV news, even though his wife was a very dark Philippine.

The bottom line is, the law was very clear and specific. We had an open and shut case; and despite a lot of shady manoeuvring on the part of the city and county attorneys we eventually won the case. Then came the hardball. The city attorneys immediately offered us about $50,000 to just go away. They said, you have had your fun boys, just go away and save us the hassle. We of course said no, it is not just about the money, it is about the corruption; we've got you by the balls. They, no, you don't understand how this game is played; you can not win.

We should have taken the money. The appellate judge sided with the city/county with no appealable error, no statement or reason for the appeal; nothing.

Our attorney said that next step was Supreme court of Ohio, but he no longer wanted any part of it. Hmmm! Apparently he still wanted to practice in Hamilton County from time to time.

As you can imagine, I have not watched a football or baseball game since. It is nothing more than welfare for the team owners to become super rich. Mucho $ for the mafia-like concessions companies. The cities and counties get the easy sales tax money from sports fans without any reall work our business management required on their part. The poor get minimal wage jobs to change sheets and serve food to the stupid sports fans. And the dumbass fans get to sit on their fat asses in their stupid ass team jerseys in the new stadium drinking $9 beers and eating $7 hotdogs. What I can't understand is why should the rest no sports fan taxpayers have to pay for this shit!
