...
Saturday, at a rally supporting Luther Strange in Alabama, President Trump decided to reignite the issue, and essentially argued that players who kneel for the national anthem should be fired: Wouldnt you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, get that son of a bh off the field right now? He is fired!
Once again, we see most peoples perspective on whether ones personal views should cost them their job depend almost entirely upon whether one agrees with their views. If youre on the Left, you think that a baker ought to be fired if he refuses to bake a wedding cake for gays, that Kentucky clerk Kim Davis should have been removed from office, that the Google guy deserved to be fired, and that no NFL player should be fired for taking a knee. Many conservatives feel the precise opposite in each case. Many Americans believe in First Amendment protections in the workplace for viewpoints they agree with and no protections for viewpoints they oppose.
Its one thing for you or me to say, they ought to fire that guy. Its another thing for the President of the United States, with enormous power and influence over laws, regulations, federal policy, and government personnel decisions to do so. The National Football League will interact with the federal government plenty of times in the Trump era: antitrust exemptions, military plane fly-overs, security for the Super Bowl and other big events, tax laws. Every time the federal government balks at a league request, some will wonder, is this based of the merits of the arguments, or is this because of Trumps fight with the players over the national anthem?

I’m fine with him challenging The NFL.
Go to hell.
Those should be suspended immediately, and indefinitely.
What’s going on with the NFL players is a very calculated, cunning bit of Cultural Marxism intended to inflict heavy long-term damage on the country and its society.
Maybe NR should pull its head out of its arse and deal with THAT.
Have you ever posted a positive comment about Trump as a candidate and as a president?
If not go to hell with your NFL buddies.
If so, please post some link re positive comments about our President, and I will apologize to you.
He’s distracting the fakestream presstitutes with shiny things.
The author is stupid in the extreme.
He is comparing official government action to individuals boycotting an anti-American display on live TV.
Of course, NRO will stretch any fact, and mischaracterize any situation to hit this POTUS.
Hypocrisy be damned.
Thanks to Brown Deer for posting this!
YOU do not belong here.
Military fly-overs should continue, but they should drop ordnance as they do it.
I agree. Giving more attention to people desperately seeking attention only emboldens them to seek even more.
There is a ton of important work to do that does not involve the NFL, football, or snowflakes on all sides.
The Left is the group that started demanding that people be punished for failure to be politically correct. Lose your job, lose your business. You have to pay for your transgression.
They just want a monopoly on that.
The idea that a hundred million patriotic Americans might start demanding anything similar is something that terrifies the Left.
Suppose every time I waited on a customer, I started by kneeling, raising my fist, and saying, "I oppose the confiscatory taxes of a totalitarian government. Justice for taxpayers!" Would my employer have every right to fire me?
All Trump did was make a passing comment, then tweet a few sentences. It is the NFL that has made it a fight.
Are you referring to the article or the guy who posted it?
This man is a showman extraordinaire, and an absolute genius.
He is focused on these things. It is Congress who is not.
Probably took Trump all of two seconds to send that Tweet.
President Trump is simply reminding us who the real enemy is.
National Review is another one.
