I’m supposed to close on a refinance of my house next week. Maybe I’ll cancel it.

Nope. I’ve read the Bible and it says that no man knows the day. I suspect that David Meade, whoever he is fits the definition of no man

Interesting story about the college guy in your Bible study. His zeal is appealing.

The biggest problem with the secret-rapture is that it prevents people from being ready for Jesus’ return. The way to be ready is to live a life of agape love, first toward God and then toward the people all around us. Sadly, the secret-rapture people are so caught up in their preoccupation with trumpets and signs that they don’t understand what it means to love one another as Jesus loved us—much less to put that command into practice.

ANYTHING that gets between us and loving one another is a stumbling block. The secret-rapture obsession is only one such distraction.

Well, at least I was able to move that 16” DeWalt radial arm saw into my shop this morning. I guess I won’t be able to restore it and use it, but it made it to my shop.

I don’t have much vested in that whole Mayan calendar thing, but the ridicule was just as overblown as the fear and hype. The end of their calendar meant the end of the age. Significance of an “age” ending to the Mayans seemed to have some negative connotation, but it’s still not entirely clear. However, they were very accomplished astronomers, and so seeing such a thing on their calendar prompted all manner of speculation, that we were about to enter an asteroid belt with a high likelihood of near-extinction events, that sort of occurrence. It also fed the Planet X or Nibiru thing too, which is a cottage industry unto itself on YouTube. It only stands to reason that some have rolled all that into one thing and applied Biblical Revelation to it, since it sounds more than a bit like an asteroid, the flaming mountain crashing into the sea and all that. Now, we have this so-called “Great Sign” of Revelation occurring tomorrow, tied in with Rosh Hashana. Yep, they’ve gone into overdrive. There have been more than a few peculiar things going on up there of late, you’ve got to admit, whether or not you attach any significance or not.

I was raised Christian and remain so, but I also remember a verse about who no one knows when He will return.

I knew an engineer on the Trident Missile Program who claimed to know exactly when the end of the world would be and showed me on the white board in his office how it would be sometime in 2001.

He will come again. In his own blessed time. We should worry more about living as He would have us live, instead of worrying about exactly when He will come.

[[I’ve read the Bible and it says that no man knows the day.]]

Read the whole context of that passage carefully- it speaks about Christ’s return to earth to judge- His second coming- nowhere in the passage is it talking about the idea that no man knows the hour or day when God’s people will be taken up- but it does say noone knows the hour or day that Christ will return to earth again

I always thought that verse was talking about the rapture too- but it was pointed out to me that it’s about the second coming- which i see now- This isn’t a defense of knowing when the rapture might occur- nor is it a defense of meade- i have no idea what he believes— but rather just a clarification of of the passage-

Point taken. I didn’t take the time to look it up. But, we still have no idea when rapture will occur.

[[We should worry more about living as He would have us live, instead of worrying about exactly when He will come.]]

There’s no reason one can’t live that way wile also looking for His return- if possible- Some seem to think it’s an either or situation- not so- infact- looking into the issue actually motivates folks to spread the word- as there becomes a possible urgency- folks see a world sliding into immorality, sinfulness and satanic control- and see that the time —may be drawing close— They see biblical signs such as Israel becoming a nation in 1948- They see God’s word being preached in all the world (with the help of electronic means), preparations for the rebuilding of the temple again- training of Levitical priests taking place now- The year of jubilee culminating around a possible heavenly sign spoken of in rev- etc etc etc- and a sense of urgency happens and motivates some to get His word out as the time —may be short—

Just talking about the issue in forums exposes people to His word that may otherwise not have- The spirit listeth where He will-

It’s just not an ‘either or’ situation- There’s no reason one can’t live for the Lord, and also look for His return in anticipation

How could it be about the second coming? The day the tribulation starts, you know to the day when the second coming will be ... exactly 1260 days ... times 2.

Right???

He’s still way off no matter what, due to forgetting the rest of the Bible. There’s a lot that has to transpire, that has not transpired. Pretty safe to say he’s still wrong even with moving it back almost a month.

[[But, we still have no idea when rapture will occur.]]

Do we know for sure? Nope- but there is nothing in the bible saying we won’t be able to know- or suspect- God lays out some signs that precede the tribulation- some have come to pass (Israel became a nation) and some are coming to pass (Preparations for rebuilding the temple again and training of priests) (also a very interestingness fact is that Saddam Hussein actually began rebuilding Babylon- He believed himself to be a descendant of king Nebuchadnezzar- and even had money crafted with his depiction and the King’s depiction on it as well as bricks for the city made with references to that- He also tried to purchase the gate/door to the old babylon temple- but to no avail- germany owns it now- won’t sell. Now that Saddam is gone- UNESCO has taken over the rebuilding project and is pouring billions into it- as did Saddam)

There are other signs as well- that were not present during the time of the early believers- Do these signs mean the rapture is imminent? possibly, possibly not- but it’s interestingness to look into these things- we just have to be careful not to make absolute claims, and simply hope that He will come quickly-

The second coming and the ‘rapture,’—i.e.: believers being caught up with Jesus in the clouds at his return—weren’t separated into different events until 1830. Prior to that date Christians believed that what is now called the rapture would occur when Jesus appeared in the clouds in His second coming.

The reason Christians believed—and most still do—that the second coming and the rapture occur together is because the Bible doesn’t teach separate events. First, the Apostle John stated in divine revelation back in the first century that he was our fellow-partaker in the tribulation. But just as important is Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer. In it He says:

John 17:

15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

19 For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

Jesus says nothing about catching us up out of the world. Rather, He specifically asks God NOT to take us out of the world. Jesus knew what He was talking about, as did the Apostle John. The secret-rapture is a myth.

"As per the Apostle John, “the tribulation” has been ongoing since the first century."

Your (minority) interpretation...

~~~~~~~~~~
Most serious Scripture scholars distinguish between ongoing "tribulation" and, the specific event, "the Great Tribulation" -- about which John also wrote...
