... but it would have meant quitting on the French.
Yeah, like we owed them anything.

i watched a little bit of it....i’m big into Vietnam history so i’m aware of much..

what little amount i saw yesterday was fair- the beginnings of the Vietnam involvement started with Truman and basically we went in to save france’s arse...i don’t know how much more i will watch but what little i saw last night was historically accurate...

his jumping from 1947 to 1967 in a moments notice was very annoying and distracting and foreshadows the shape of things to come...

"Is he right? 'Cause I know that's the popular version of what went on there, and a lot of people like to believe that. I wish I could but I was there! I wasn't up here in a classroom, hoping I was right, thinking about it, I was up to my knees in rice paddies! With guns that didn't work, going up against Charlie, sluggin it out with him, while PUSSIES LIKE YOU were back here partying, putting headbands on, doing drugs, LISTENING TO THE G........N BEATLE ALBUMS! Ahhhhhhh AHhhhhhh AHHHHHHHHH!!!"

F*** the French. Truman screwed it up. We could have had Cam Ranh Bay as an overseas base. Truman’s sucking up to the French was a failure anyhow.

I doubt that there is anything that Burns could tell me about Vietnam.

We played this game last night right after it was broadcast the first time. You might find the comments there informative...or not - YMMV...

Watched some of it...
I was 13 when it ended so I never learned a whole lot about it.

Seems they were blaming the leader of South Vietnam for everything and glorifying Ho Chi Min and the “freedom fighters of the North who infiltrated and undermined in the south.

And they practiy made JFK out to be all-knowing, all-understanding of the whole situation. I’m surprised they didn’t add a halo to his pic every time they shows him.
And then add horns to that evil Nixon...

Was the leader of the south that bad?

Didn't watch. Did listen to interview with(leftist/atheist)Sam Harris on YouTube where early on he(Burns)drew parallels with current administration/Nixon/Johnson/Kennedy(but mostly Nixon I'm sure)with their issues related to lies, collusion with foreign gov.'s, anti-media(paranoia), etc. etc...(what? don't include Obama?...shocked!(not))

Might watch down the road, but have a feeling he'll keep somewhat non-partisan to get viewers, then dump a pro-dem./anti-rep./Trump stink bomb at the end.

RIP my brother-in-law, Ted/Vietnam Vet/1st Infantry Division...riding Harley's in Heaven(gone too soon bro).

57k lost lives later

I didn't watch it. Did it cover the million (mostly Catholic and Evangelical converts) who were massacred between 1947 and 1954 in N Vietnam?

His documentaries lean heavily on the “feel sorry for the pitiful mistreated negroes” meme.
