Am not going to argue the fact that this dude was an ED-209 and the world is a better place without him.
However the cop showed a lack of common sense that baffles me. Even this article spoke of something I noticed on the video:
“Smith drove at speeds of up to 87 miles per hour on wet roads, endangering other drivers and pedestrians. About 45 seconds before the chase ended, police dashcam video captured Stockley saying, going to kill this (expletive), dont you know it.”
On this video I could not see the street because of the weather conditions so how could they??? Call the damn chase off before you kill someone off at that speed at in that neighborhood!! There will be another time to get this ED-209 I mean for real what were these cops thinking? They can call of the chase, I have heard of these things happening if it is just too dangerous. The cops even wrecked their SUV once in this pursuit.
I mean I really hate to play Monday morning quarterback with cops but from the dashcam I can clearly say they were like taxes and just did not know when to quit.

I guess we need to hire more cops who are quitters. Good thinking.
“Call the damn chase off before you kill someone off at that speed at in that neighborhood!!”
It looked/sounded like the police SUV sideswiped the approaching red car a split second before they hit the suspect’s car. The red car veered out of the SUV’s path. It was a very quick, smart move by the red car driver. If the driver had not done that, the SUV would’ve hit them head on, possibly killing or injuring innocent passengers in the red car.
I second your call to stop the chase.
” the world is a better place without him.”
No question.
“Smith drove at speeds of up to 87 miles per hour on wet roads, endangering other drivers and pedestrians.”
Not enough to declare him guilty of the alleged crime he was accused of. Irrelevant to the changes.
“About 45 seconds before the chase ended, police dashcam video captured Stockley saying, going to kill this (expletive), dont you know it.
The video commentary and in Court, it was alleged he MAY have said that. According to the Court the alleged commentary was hard to hear and might not be what was said. I heard something different. I heard the officer say something along the line of “he” (slime) was going to kill someone.
“On this video I could not see the street because of the weather conditions so how could they???”
Not unusual and quite often, cameras are unable to record because of light conditions, inclement weather, other environmental factors. What the cameras “see” versus what the driver sees are quite different.
“The cops even wrecked their SUV once in this pursuit.”
Deliberately ran their patrol car into the worthless slime to stop him. Done all the time during chases. Not a loss of control but deliberate act.
Irrelevant to the charge.
We're a nation of laws. Someone runs from the police, they risk getting shot and killed. Maybe the police shouldn't have engaged in that pursuit, but I understand why they made the spur-of-the-moment decision to pursue him.
Nobody's safe if those trying to escape when ordered to stop aren't held accountable.
