President Trump vowed to veto Sen. Bernie Sanders' bill to create a government-run healthcare system if it passed the House and Senate.
"Bernie Sanders is pushing hard for a single payer healthcare plan - a curse on the U.S. & its people..." Trump tweeted Thursday afternoon "...I told Republicans to approve healthcare fast or this would happen. But don't worry, I will veto because I love our country & its people."
The Vermont Independent introduced the bill Wednesday with the backing of 17 Democratic senators, including potential presidential hopefuls Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.
Sanders did not take questions from reporters about the bill at a press conference Wednesday, but criticized the current healthcare system as one that has allowed "insurance companies and drug companies to make billions of dollars in profits and make industry CEOs extremely wealthy."Sanders
Sanders did not elaborate on how his healthcare bill would be funded.
In a tweet following Trump's tweet, Sanders slammed the idea that single-payer healthcare is a curse.
"No Mr. President, providing health care to every man, woman and child as a right is not a curse, it's exactly what we should be doing," he said.
“Evil profits” — spoken like a true commie.
Just WHERE does he think all those profits go?
Bernie does have a point here.
“providing health care to every man, woman and child”
And what proof have you that shows single payer delivers on that.
Boy I recall reading all those posts saying single payers is coming soon. Yeah sure it is LoL.
will this stupid bill even get to the President’s desk?
if it does, congress should be shot
this is nonsense, just like bernie
How would this bill pass in the house?
Doesn’t it have to get through the house of congress-critters also?
Would say ‘not bloody likely,’ but these days, who knows...
KYPD
????
There is no bill.
Why is Trump promising to veto a non-existent bill?
Tell Democrats to CBO score this non-existent bill.
And you know there will be "those people" who will always get care before you and me under SP....
It shouldn’t pass in the first place.
Bernie Sanders, who’s never worked a day in his life, wants people who slave away everyday of their lives, to pay for the health care of millions of layabouts like him.
[How would this bill pass in the house?]
One half the House is paid off by the healthcare cos.
The other have by the Pharma cos.
“”Sanders did not take questions from reporters about the bill at a press conference Wednesday, but criticized the current healthcare system as one that has allowed “insurance companies and drug companies to make billions of dollars in profits and make industry CEOs extremely wealthy.”
Bernie does have a point here. “
Simple enough solution there. Get the government completely out of medicine. Doctors compete, pharma competes, customers choose, prices go down without artificially propped up “charge books,” and the argument goes away.
It is seductive to view healthcare/medicine as a right, but in reality, it is not. Yes, pharma and the insurance companies are wealthy, but the system they lobbied for on the basis of the seductive view is the main reason. Knock out the props and the market would change. Slowly maybe, with pain definitely, but it would size down.

YMMV

Single payer won’t get thru this House or President, but it will eventually happen in this dumbed down society. It’s an easy sell to low information voters. After all, who would be against “free” healthcare for everyone? It’s an inevitability, I hate to say it, but does anyone think Millenials will *not* get on board this ship completely with their mindless Group Think?
“Bernie Sanders ... the Vermont Independent introduced the bill Wednesday with the backing of 17 Democratic senators, including potential presidential hopefuls Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.”
A weirder and more exotic group of individuals could not be located, even in a Star Wars bar scene.
“Sanders did not take questions from reporters about the bill at a press conference Wednesday, but criticized the current healthcare system as one that has allowed “insurance companies and drug companies to make billions of dollars in profits and make industry CEOs extremely wealthy.”
“Bernie does have a point here.”
Bernard is upset because he does not have a piece of the action. How is he supposed to get his 4th house if he keeps getting left out?
Trump has promised a lot of things.
Bernie may have a point there, but that point might not be so valid if the Feds hadn’t imposed themselves on healthcare so long ago and demanded that insurance cover more and more....and more and more....etc.....
