Why Did Trump do a Deal with the Democrats on Funding the Government?
IWB ^ | Mark Angelides

Posted on 09/07/2017 11:47:59 AM PDT by davikkm

On Wednesday, an agreement was made between President Trump and leading Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi on a “short-term bump” in raising the debt ceiling. Major Republican players are extremely annoyed that the president seems to have completely cut them out of this and just gone his own way.

And here’s the thing, Trump was most likely right to do this. He has not had much support from Republicans for his policies and he has had zero support from Democrats or the MSM. He may just have found a way to deal with both in one small meeting.

The deal was cut ostensibly to allow funds for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, but there is a much bigger picture behind this.

Firstly, Trump has been lambasted by the press for not getting things done, he just has, and it’s for funding that not even the most anti-Trump anchor can give him criticism for. By being the guy to “take the hit” for getting relief money out there, he has become “bullet proof” from media attacks (at least on this decision). It is the Democrats and the Republicans who now look like obstructionists on necessary relief funds.

AFAIK, the GOPee still has to sign off to make it happen.

They actually own it when it happens.

Because the GOPe won’t work with him.

He should declare himself an independent.

Exactly. The GOPe plan is punt the football past the 2018 elections. In other words no plan.

“Major Republican players are extremely annoyed that the president seems to have completely cut them out of this and just gone his own way.”

This the same major republican players that have stabbed him in the back since the day Trump was sworn in? The ones who stopped the Obamacare repeal, who have been pushing the fake Russia story? The ones who stayed in pro forma session to prevent him from recess appointments? The ones who have slow walked all his appointments? The ones who called him a racist after Charlottesville? The ones who pushed through a Russia sanctions bill designed to imply he isn’t trustworthy with Russia?

THOSE major republican players? Screw em.

It’s certainly a big risk on his part. Yes his voters are frustrated with the obstructionist GOP, but most are even more appalled at any deal that puts anti-America. Pelosi and Schumer in a good light. He’s sent a message to the GOP but he can’t go down this road too often. The Dems are on the ropes with their support of Antifa and Trump shouldn’t be throwing them a lifeline.

The ones who laughed on TV when asked when they would fund the wall Trump ran hard on?

With McConnell/Ryan,Inc., it was going to happen anyway. This way you just cut out all the BS that those two would be saying before they did what the Dims/Rinos wanted to do in the first place.

‘He has not had much support from Republicans for his policies’

This is overstating it. McConnell and Ryan have been actively working to undercut Trump since he was sworn in. McConnell even snarked about how hard it is to MAGA—when HE is one of the biggest reasons it’s so hard.

NO, I’m far more appalled at the GOP leadership doing everything it can dream up to embarrass, impede, slander, and cripple him and his clearly voter-approved agenda. The main goal is to crush the GOP leadership and bring them to heel.

R Senators who voted against the bill today:
17Rs No: Corker Daines Enzi Ernst Fischer Flake Graham Grassley Johnson Lankford Lee McCain Moran Paul Risch Sasse & Toomey

Almost a rollcall of obstructionist RINOs.

Can’t really argue with that. I suppose the R’s should have worked with him.

McConnell and Ryan were already planning on stabbing Trump in the back by not having the finances to take care of the storm coming through..FEMA was almost out of money and the plan was to have the next storm hit and fema not being ready because the money was n not there to get things done.

So what was the GOPe’s plan for victory on the debt ceiling?

I’m sure it was a winner, since Ryan/McConnell are soooo awesome at their jobs.

Lankford is not owned by McConnell and the establishment. He is a freshman Senator from Oklahoma who has so far seemed to vote his own way based on his election promises. Of course, it doesn’t take long for the swamp gas to have its effects.
