My brother left a northern Houston suburb with his family at 5 am Saturday. He said his was the only car on the road. Today, the online flood gauges say he has two feet of water in his house (if they can be believed).
His Houston factory is flooded. He’s shopping for an RV in Dallas so he can get his factory back in operation as quickly as possible (and get his daughter back to school).
Baloney. See all those full-size pickups on the dealers lots? The ones being discounted? One year from now there won’t be any discounts, but there will be relaxed credit standards as tradesmen take the money theyve made from insurance companies doing the rebuild to commercial and residential properties.
That giant sucking sound? It’s the sound of carpenters, electricians and drywall guys pulling out of the Midwest and heading for TX. For good if they can swing it.
Things suck now, but TX construction is going to be juiced for 18-24 months after the insurance money starts flowing.

For that matter, property in other parts of TX will likely rise in value, since there won’t be as much new building in TX for the next couple of years, what with so many of the contractors and workers going to Houston, Rockport, Corpus, etc.
If there is shelter for them to go and work their. I’ve got a offer already to come, storms not even over. Not sure if it would be feasible with out a place to stay.

Some bright people will truck in dozens or hundreds of single- and double-wides, find a way to hook them up to electricity and water, and house guys many guys in each so as to make an enormous profit. Bus them to work, bus them back, provide them with food and some entertainment at night. The construction companies will pay for it - the same way that the oil companies did when the fracking boom started.
I wish that I had the money to buy a trainload of single-wides - I’d make a fortune.
I know. Am a little picky, not into sleeping in a bunk house with 20 guys. Usually sell and run projects to completion or end up running a company’s production overall. Don’t generally do the physical labor any more, although with the lack of craftsman, have had to do more stuff directly in recent years to get the results that I expect. Have worked on too many high-end projects over the last 20+ years to put up with a bunch of half arse jack legs.
