NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Governor Bill Haslam along with the Department of Economic and Community Development announced that Philips will be bringing about 800 new jobs to Tennessee.
Commissioner Bob Rolfe and Philips officials made the announcement Thursday. The international technology company will establish a center of expertise in Middle Tennessee.
Philips, a global leader in health technology, will create approximately 800 new jobs in the Nashville region.
In todays economy, global businesses can choose to grow or expand anywhere in the world. More international companies like Philips are deciding to invest and create jobs in Tennessee because of the policies weve put into place with the help of the General Assembly, Haslam said. Philips investment in Middle Tennessee continues our states strong growth trajectory and moves us closer to making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs.
The Philips brand is synonymous with more than a century of innovation, and today Philips is a global leader in health care with a range of technologies and solutions that are having a meaningful impact on health care, Rolfe said. The trip Gov. Haslam and TNECD took to Amsterdam to meet with Philips executives in June confirms that we will travel the globe to recruit exceptional international companies such as Philips. Im pleased to welcome Philips to the Middle Tennessee region and look forward to the impact approximately 800 well-paying jobs will have on our state.
Philips will be co-locating certain key business functions within Commercial Operations, Customer Service Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Procurement, and Quality and Regulatory at a new center of expertise in the Greater Nashville area. By consolidating into one U.S.-based location, Philips can better assimilate current and future acquisitions more efficiently, standardize business processes and systems, and build a strong, scalable organization for the future, while continuously improving its customer experience.
As a company, Philips continues to innovate and grow and we need to keep pace so that we can continue to support our partners and customers in meeting the health care needs of their communities, said Craig Gruchacz, Global Business Services leader for North America at Philips. The consolidation of our business services will help us to deliver on our continuous improvement goals, with a particular focus on our customer experience, while leveraging the benefits of the growing health technology ecosystem in Tennessee to accelerate patient care.
The Tennessee Valley Authority and Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce praised Philips for its decision to locate in the Nashville region.
TVA is excited to welcome Philips to the Valley, TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley said. Helping facilitate new, quality job creation is fundamental to TVAs mission of service and we are proud to work with our economic development partners to further that mission.
We are excited that Philips has chosen to grow in Middle Tennessee, Ralph Schulz, president and CEO of the Nashville Area Chamber, said. Having a global leader in health care innovation create approximately 800 skilled jobs in the health technology sector is a sign of the strength of the regions ability to attract and retain top talent.

More winning, it looks like. Tennessee is my favourite US state.
Philips Consumer Electronics left Knoxville and Greeneville TN in 2004...Went to Atlanta...
I was at Phillips/Magnavox in 2003. The took the business to Europa.
Wonder exactly where this will be in Middle Tennessee?
I left there in 2000...
A lot went to Bruge, but a lot also went to Juarez....
The executive offices went to Atlanta...
I was there for the announcement at the Strawplains plant.
The crying and knashing of teeth was not good.
I had already secured a new job 2 weeks earlier in Nashville no less for a better career.
I felt sorry for the Magnavox folks.
I worked at Straw Plains...I was a Design Engineer......
I left TVA for Philips in ‘82...Left Philips in 2000 for GE...
Retired from GE in 2015...
I don’t remember the names but I was building some power supply test jigs for their large screen projection TV’s.
3rd floor cubicle with open Tv’s as a wall.
Wild stuff as far as safety went.
They were having major system timing problems and a room of Koreans to fix it.
It was a fine facility but it wasn’t very efficient.
Many of those engineers ended up over at the dog place in W. Knoxville.
I still work and GE is a direct competitor. We do pretty well.
WINNING AGAIN!!!!!
Worked Philps Med for nearly 2 years starting in 2015. These jobs as described have to be moving from MA. They are running from the tax, cost, etc there to a lower cost. The US med HQ is in MA today and these are HQ type roles they are moving.
