The 2016 presidential election seems to have rocked the two party system. This corrupt way we run our country will inevitably collapse as it is unsustainable. The people are waking up and more Americans are becoming Independents on a daily basis, disgusted by the hypocrisy inherent in both major political parties.
Democrats were ridiculously confident in their ability to defeat the new Republican Party with Donald Trump as its face and they are only making matters worse since their defeat last November. The party of the left remains in shambles. Its leadership is nonexistent. Their donors are outraged. And the constant witch hunt over the nonexistent Russian collusion shows how inept they are and how obsessed the party is with ignoring reality. What the Dems stand for at this point is anyones guess.
The supposedly liberal party claims to fight for Americans liberties while furthering a destructive globalist agenda and kowtowing to its deep pocketed donors. But the Republicans are no different. They are far from the conservative party.

Don’t worry: when the Dems retake Congress and the Presidency, there will be a one party system shortly there after ... all your dreams will come true Carbery.
IT's been a one party party leeching off We the People for quite some time now.
As if corruption were not endemic to the human psyche.
“I hate how these people fundamentally change America!” “We should fundamentally change that!”
The two party system is very, very important.
I don’t think it’s the system that is the problems. It’s the personalities.
I can’t wait to become a billionaire.
Be careful what you wish for.
Wait a minute - we have a two-party system now?
Oh goody...we devolve into a single party or have so many splinters that no on can rule
What nobody is talking about is the irreparable damage maniacal Never-Trumpers and their zombified followers are doing to the US global image. Not that there’s much left of it after overthrowing legal, stable governments in Egypt, Libya, Syria, Kiev etc. The US always framed us as the ultimate in fair elections, accepting the results, and the peaceful transfer of power. We now see that doesn’t apply unless the elitist puppet-masters get to choose both candidates.
The two party system is very, very important.

A multi-party system might make it more difficult to pass legislation. That would be a good thing. The less congress does, the better.
Legislation lines people’s pockets, creates more bureaucracy, increases our deficit, adds to the national debt, and generally makes government even more complex and unresponsive that it already is.
Just my humble opinion. ;)

One party now holds all the reigns of power, yet it cannot rule either.
What did the founders want?
AFAIK what we’ve got now has become anything but what our founders wanted. The parties only care about themselves.
I would love to see every election decided on who makes a better case that they can do the job. In an ideal system, parties would be irrelevant. Who is the best at managing a budget? Who is the best at identifying and solving problems?
Unfortunately, what we have now is a system where one party never advances ideas at all, but runs its campaigns on demonizing its opponents. And their support is based strictly on how many people they can get to believe that skill in character assassination is more important than one’s ability to do a job. And the other party, which usually does run on ideas, is so cowed that it never stands up for the ideas and crumples every time the character assassination starts up.
As a voter who wants to see less politicking and more problem solving, I am very frustrated.
No one really knows if the 2-party-system will go away. The internet changes everything. Purpose was to combine funds to pay for tv ads. Now, the 2-party-system’s only purpose seems to be corruption.
Maxine’s all black party will save the day.
Yes we do. Probably the most clearly defined two party system in many decades
