Interesting. I watched an almost total eclipse in March of 1989 from my kitchen window in southwestern Ohio. Don’t know where he is getting this 99 years idea.
According to Google there are an average of four solar eclipses per year. There is nothing catastrophic about this.

Because it is exclusive to the US and goes from Oregon to S. Carolina. Not catastrophic but a tourist eclipse of magnitude for the US
