Because of the concussion business...we are probably within a decade where one state will outlaw football at the high school and college level. At that point, you can figure the NCAA and NFL probably have about ten years left of decent talent and states allowing the sport to be played.

All of those guys who got the hype, glory, and fantastic paychecks after the NCAA...will find it crashing down, and no career back-up plan.

It's amazing how the love of money will skew facts and policy. Boxing, football, cage matches, etc., may be around til Jesus comes ---- IT'S THE MONEY!

Regarding football concussions, science may come to the rescue. I read where they're designing helmets that will reduce concussions. Maybe we'll see future football players wearing NASCAR type harnesses or something similar.

True dat. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (henceforth to be referred to as CTE) is going to be the end of football as we know it.

Ironic how new information comes to light (smoking can kill you) and then it's perfectly clear with the benefit of hindsight.

Football, boxing, and certain other things that involve practitioners knocking each other out will become the domain of a uh, subset of the population...

IF someone is still playing football in 20 years, don't be surprised to see teams importing raw athletes from the third world as cannon fodder. One way to beat the salary cap, one would suppose.

You are correct. The Doctor who was the first do document CTE, Dr. Omalu, played by WIll Smith in the movie, just recently stated “having children play football even though HS is CHILD ABUSE”. Now, I am not saying I agree with the statement, but all it is going to take is for a kid to get killed or hurt seriously in the next few years and some lawyer use this statement by Dr. Omalu and file a lawsuit against a school district. The cost of the lawsuit will economically make football too much of a liability and you will begin to see football banned across more and more school districts.

Football will become more like Boxing in the next 25 years. Recall that from 1900 to 1950, Boxing along with Baseball were the two most popular sports. By the 1960’s the NFL took over and baseball fell to number 2. After the death of the Korean boxer in the ring in the 1980’s and Ali’s CTE issues, boxing today is not on the radar.

I don’t think football will fall as far as boxing, but it will face a decline in participation in the future, thus popularity.
