For those trips that are a bit too short to justify a plane ticket and just long enough to make driving inconvenient, there's no easy answer. Do you hop on a $5 bus and spend hours stuck in traffic? Or is it easier to cough up the money, hop on a plane and deal with TSA and flight delays?
Cabin, a brand-new luxury bus company, offers a solution to this conundrum. Its fleet of high-end buses makes overnight trips between Los Angeles and San Francisco that depart at 11 p.m. and arrive by 7 a.m., which means you don't lose an entire day on the road or at the airport.
But unlike other buses or red-eye trips, a ticket on this mobile hotel gets you your own private sleeping cabin equipped with luxury bedding, soundproof walls and a light-blocking privacy curtain for the ultimate snoozing experience. There's even an on-board attendant to provide refreshments, snacks and sleeping aids for the restless. You'll have access to an on-board restroom and communal Wi-Fi lounge, and you can check two pieces of luggage for free (a perk that is sadly hard to come by these days).
Cabin currently only travels between L.A. and San Francisco, but it has plans to expand to other big travel routes. At $115 per ticket, a ride on these buses isn't exactly cheap, but personal dream dens that basically teleport you to your destination are worth their weight in gold, if you ask us.
As long as the A/C is good...I might take a ride just to get a good night’s sleep.

I guess it was a round trip...
I would do this
Will TSA be around to grope you?
I drive to Los Angeles for $80 round trip and I’m in my car I don’t have to rent I don’t have to wait door to door one way is about 4 to 5 hours
And I love to drive
I can also fill my trunk in my backseat with as much stuff as I darn well feel like and then buy more stuff in LA and bring it home no extra charge
Sometimes I stop at Harris Ranch for some fresh-kill and simply the best steak anywhere
Other times I’ll drive through Camarillo and eat it Robbins love that place
Doesn’t look like my idea of “luxury”. No door, not even a curtain? What, are you supposed to board in your PJs?
Looks more like one of those Japanese hotels.
Capsule Hotels.
Perhaps, but this is more upscale.
They merged a double decker bus with a sleeper car from a train, but shrank the accommodations down to an enclosed bunk with individual climate control, power point and privacy curtain. If you need to be somewhere but can’t make time to fly out, it makes a certain amount of sense but light sleepers probably wouldn’t handle it very well. Then, there’s the matter of transportation once you arrive at your destination city, it’d have to be a pretty good sized city to have enough cabs, buses or subway, so application would be pretty much limited to major cities and possibly major tourist destinations. If they keep their buses clean and updated, the buses are actually comfortable and they actually make good on their schedule promises, it looks like a viable business model to me, 8 to 12 hour radius of a given city, major market to major market (or tourist hotspot).
Right up until the guy who had Mexican food for dinner gets started....
Only a matter of time until two men are caught having sex on the return trip from San Francisco.
Hope the bathrooms are decent.
Probably a new movie in this.
Inspector Clouseau? Columbo?
No wait.. Another Thin Man movie. Go for it!
ok dog,
but what about the rest room?
I ONCE took a bus from Jacksonville to Tampa. John was stopped up and leaked and made the whole trip special.
As usual, no mention of another option on the train.
There already is a movie: The Big Bus.
(shudder)
