What I’ve heard is it’s a stretch to say they ‘serve’ in the military since it appears the routine is to apply right after basic for hormone treatment, and of course, psych treatment, which goes on for two years and impacts where and to what someone can be assigned. Then there’s the surgery, and extended recovery of another year, and by that time, voila’, enlistment is up! And off they go without so much as a fairtheewell.
Yet, a person with asthma, diabetes, sickle cell, hearing problems, vision problems, flat feet, shin splints that don’t heal, too fat, fails physical training, along with various other issues, or expects facelifts to be a provided benefit, cannot join the military and wouldn’t be accommodated in a million years, much less walk away with a medical discharge and guaranteed benefits for life.
Keeps ‘em distracted. Cats = shiny things.
