Joshua Yaffa, a New Yorker correspondent reporting from Moscow and a New America fellow, has been writing for months about Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and the Russia scandal, which seems to get more interesting by the day. Recently, he wrote about the frustration many Russia journalists feel over the American medias coverage of the Russia story, which they think has overstated Putins direct influence on various aspects of Russian society, and makes the men and women in the Kremlin appear to be much smarter than they actually are.
Yaffa and I discussed these subjects recently by Skype. During the course of our conversation, which has been edited and condensed for clarity, we talked about the problems with overstating Putins power, why there might be many small stories of collusion rather than one big one, and how being in Moscow makes you think differently about the Trump administrations troubles.
Isaac Chotiner: How have five-plus years in Moscow changed your perspective of this whole scandal?
Joshua Yaffa: I dont know exactly where on the spectrum I am, whether closer to the American media perspective or closer to the Russian media perspective, but definitely somewhere in between those two poles. On the American side, I think I get, as it were, the magnitude and insanity of the story, something I think that Russian correspondents dont always feel: what a big deal this is in Washington, and deservedly so.....

Meanwhile, Slate remains uninterested in Hillary’s uranium deal.
The FR anti-Putinistas believe Vlad knows all, sees all, and does all.
This guy is saying Putin is not the god our own FReepers say he is.
Obviously, our FReepers MUST be the right ones.
No. It is a boring waste of time that jumped the shark a long time ago.
The only scandal is that liberals and the MSM insist on pushing their bogus Russian scandal story.
New batch of State Dept emails leaked as we speak. Hope there are some nuggets.

Bingo!
Occam’s razor tells me it’s more likely the CIA was interfering in our election than the FSB. Who had more to gain? Or lose?
Yes. Seems slate is busy covering up for Russians... I mean, where is the outrage about collusion? Poof! It disappears when liberals hedge for their future relations with Russians and their need to solicit them help in the next elections!
The CIA democrats were soliciting and begging help
from the FSB
If you believe for minute Putin who jailed and murdered that anticorruption lawyer has nothing to do with that other lawyer soliciting Trump Jr, then I have a bridge to sell you.
This is another exercise by Slate liberals to reestablish a Democrat solicitation line to the Kremlin with full knowledge of the Kremlin, just as the Kremlin had full knowledge when they were investigated by Congress.
They cannot murder one lawyer and then another lawyer lobbyist just pops out to cover up for that murder just like that
Exactly. When we CIA, of course, or NSA, or “17 intelligence agencies” we are talking about 3 Obama appointees and their toadies.
When we “say” CIA...
You know what is funny about Putinist democrats, it is that when a lawyer lobbies in favor of a Putin murder, it is “an independent private lobbyist”. But when Congress investigates said murder at the behest of a private American party, democrat putinists scream CIA CIA CIA! No independent dissident business! CIA CIA CIA!
I say BULLL SHT!
The whole Russia, Russia, Russia excuse for losing an election is embarrassing. Our enemies must be laughing at us.
