Will Paul Ryan Suffer the Cantor Fate?
The Coach's Team ^ | 6/30/17 | Suzanne Eovaldi

Will Paul Ryan be “Cantored” by a bike rider with arm tattoos in his 2018 primary challenge or be taken out in the general by a Democrat whose twitter bona fides cover important coalition pools such as Father, Army veteran, Ironworker, cancer survivor? Paul Nehlen, who lost to Ryan in their primary race, called the Speaker "a soulless globalist from the Democrat Wing of the Uni-Party!" The Everyman businessman from Delaven with a very impressive business profile drove a big yellow dump truck all around their southeastern WI district emblazoned with "Get the DIRT on Ryan at DumpPaulRyan.com."

Nehlen, a strong Trump supporter, ran early on with anti-elitist themes and is giving indications that he may make another run at Ryan even though the unknown lost out to the big D.C. money machine by nearly 70%."Paul Ryan's in for Paul Ryan" says Nehlen. The incumbent's lack of feeling for America's Everyman makes him a globalist candidate that needs to be replaced. Trump tweeted to the newcomer to GOP politics: "Thanks to P.Nehlen for your kind words, very much appreciated." The challenger presents a tough, working man's approach in his 2016 ad in which he looks directly into the camera wearing black sun glasses and a cut off black tee shirt astride his motor sickle, as it's pronounced in the Mid-West. He even challenged Ryan to an arm wrestling contest which, of course, the white shirt, D.C. insider ignored.

The Nehlen campaign themes are very similar to those of the Democrat who already has announced for the 2018 House race in a challenge to the Speaker who just doesn't seem to get the angst from his district or from the rest of the country. The recent Quinnipiac poll covered many questions that centered on Trump's favorability on The People's issues versus..

I don’t care who beats Ryan, just as long as he’s out.

Ryan is the leader of the GOPe, and a top figure in the uniparty. He has to go.

Even Maxine Waters would be better than he is. At least she would not be an enemy within.

I really don’t think Ryan will lose his district. He’s entrenched and the ‘Rats there love him.

The rest of Wisconsin? Not so much, but our votes don’t count. :(

Nehlen isn’t the best replacement; something about him suddenly showing up on the scene from out of nowhere is just not right, and there are rumors of outside-of-our-state funding, and that’s what brought us, and now the rest of you, Tammy Baldwin (D, WI, CongressLesbian)

Sometimes the Devil you DO know...is better than the alternative. (Not MUCH, but still...)

Ryan will probably win by 80% this time, coach.

I meant 90%...he’s already surpassed 80% in 2016:

Candidate Vote % Votes
Paul Ryan 84.1% 57,364
Paul Nehlen 15.9% 10,864
Total Votes 68,228

Anyone who thinks Ryan will be defeated in the primary needs to find something more productive to do. Including Paul Nehlen.

Will Ryan suffer the Cantor fate

No, I don't think so.

I grew up around, and live around, liberal Republicans.

In the interests of full disclosure - I do not believe the Republican party will survive Donald Trump's presidency. If they do not act to remove him, they will be replaced with something much better by 2025.

But anyway - Ryan's people are NICE - Midwestern nice - and they are socialists, but NICE socialists who just want to be neighborly and help out, and wouldn't hurt a fly.

Paul Ryan is their perfect representative. They want nothing to do with the Trump deplorables who carried Wisconsin, and neither does Ryan.

Right this second, Ryan is doing the calculation on IF he can "with a heavy heart" decide that Trump has to go, and if he does go that way, who will go with him.

The GOP is really not important any more. What's important, what will make the future political system, are the 8.4 million or so voters who switched from voting for Obama twice to voting for Donald Trump.

Ryan's district is really “North Chicago”. It is right on the border between Chicagoland and Wisconsin. Many of the inhabitants are Illinois transplants seeking a new nest to foul. When you think Paul Ryan, think Chicago.

Actually most of them are Republicans who have jobs inn the Milwaukee area and who have fled the democrat-controlled city. The 4th district (city of Milwuakee) is much more like Chicago.

People can think whatever they want but it’s the Republicans of WI CD1 who elected Paul Ryan and will continue to do so.

Ryan is playing both ends in the middle. Whenever I see him on TV I have to cringe. When I see him talk I can't help but think he is one slimy weasel.

“Right this second, Ryan is doing the calculation on IF he can “with a heavy heart” decide that Trump has to go, and if he does go that way, who will go with him.”

I agree, DEFINITELY. And he’s been doing that calculation since before the Convention. And in the front of his devious mind, he wants to be the one that ultimately replaces Trump

Back before the Convention it was “If I do get Trump ousted, how do I (or Kasich) pick up the 30% or so of the voters who supported him? And if I lose those voters, there is no way that I can win.” So his hand is forced and he can’t make his move.

Now it’s: “If I do get Trump impeached, with now 80% plus support among Republican voters, how many Republicans will lose their seats over it?” The answer, of course, is HUGE, and it has to be killing him that he cannot do a damn thing about it.

Trump remains in control of the 80%, by his actions, which have been excellent so far. Moving forward, he has to stay clear of Amnesty and make a real effort to build the wall. Doing that will keep him at 80% (easily)...and leave Ryan flailing away. But if Trump drops to some magic (low) level of Republican support, he’s out the door in 5 minutes.
