I encourage O’Keefe to keep at it but clear-eyed FReepers should also acknowledge that Scaramucci’s high-powered lawyer and very real threat of a massive lawsuit scared the hell out of Zucker and CNN, not least because a) Scaramucci would win and b) it would have disrupted the looming acquisition of Time Warner by AT&T.
Zucker made a cynical, me-first move. If the buyout happened and he stayed, he would be offered a new lucrative contract. If he was forced out, he would get a handsome payoff.
As the hapless producer admitted, it’s strictly about the cash.
Maybe he gets fired to make sure the deal happens; no payout else no deal. Too bad not likely as executives at his level circle the wagons and protect each other.
