Their jailing was the reason for the Oregon Standoff protest in January 2016.

If I understand the issue, it would be double jeopardy for the Hammonds, as this was the second time they have been incarcerated for the same “crime” of attempting to protect their property. They served time for the original offense and then someone decided that wasn’t good enough so back to jail. Why they went so willingly I am not quite sure, but they spurned the help offered them by groups involved in the protest, before the takeover of the Government controlled land that in reality should have belonged to the State of Oregon along with millions more acres that were not given to the State under the enabling acts.

They are convicted and in jail on federal charges.

As I see it they can be pardoned or have their sentence commuted by the President of the United States.

Has Congressman Walden taken action towards this end or the Justice Department or the White House?

I am not aware of any action.
