Trump Lawyer: “The President Is Not Under Investigation For Obstruction”

On Friday morning, when Trump lashed out at what appeared to be Rod Rosenstein on Twitter, many took his statement as confirmation of last week’s WaPo report that Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller: “I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt.”

On Sunday, however, Trump’s personal lawyer Jay Sekulow made the media rounds to explain that Trump’s tweet was not an admission, and that Trump is not under investigation in the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential race, adding that the president has not received any notification that he is being investigated.

Speaking on NBC’s Meet The Press, Sekulow said “the president is not under investigation by the special counsel. The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources that were purportedly leaking information to The Washington Post about a potential investigation of the president. But the president, as James Comey said in his testimony and as we know as of today, the president has not been and is not under investigation… let me be very clear here: the president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction.“

Todd then asked “if the president is innocent, why is he afraid of this investigation?” to which Sekulow’s response: “he’s not afraid of the investigation. There is no investigation.”

I watched both Chuck Toad and Chrisy Wallace cry tears this morning, loved every minute of it, what they don't and won't understand:

“THERE IS NO INVESTIGATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATE, THERE NEVER WAS AN INVESTIGATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, HE HAS NOT INTERFERRED IN ANY INVESTIGATION ONGOING OR OTHER WISE, HE HAS NOT HAD CONTACT WITH ANYONE CONCERNING THE ON GOING INVESTIGATATION”...

Now you can not get any plainer than that...period; dot; natta; ziltch; done; over...

The media seems to demand that Republicans prove a negative. Which cannot be done.

In effect, everyone is willing to agree (let’s say) that Trump was not under investigation on June 16.
Trump was also not under investigation on June 17.
Trump was also not under investigation at 9AM on June 18.

But can you say CATEGORICALLY that he is not under investigation right now?????????

“No, because I cannot read Mueller’s mind.”

“Boy, this is getting weird! You keep saying Trump isn’t under investigation and now it sounds like you’re not really sure!”

Chris Wallace was a total jerk. I had to turn it off. His whole show was about trying to say that the rhetoric on the Republican side is just as bad as the left. Chris openly said that Trump was responsible and should tone it down. Might as well be watching CNN.

Thank you! I was doing some work in the house while listening to that and I felt like taking Wallace out back and slapping the chit out him. Probably only be 2" tall afterwards with nothing holding him up afterward though. Yep; a real jerk. No different than any far left asshat on CNN.

Mark this down as the week Donald Trump won re-election. The television split screen Wednesday captured it perfectly. On one side, U.S. senators — the same ones who have failed to fulfill key parts of the agenda that got Mr. Trump elected — were squabbling, interrupting, misleading and orating about Russian mirages around every corner.

All of Washington screeched to a halt for this big breathless intelligence committee hearing. On the other side of the screen was Mr. Trump himself, standing on a tarmac in Ohio and talking to victims of Obamacare. --SNIP-- Mr. Comey leaked everything, as Mr. Trump’s attorney noted, except one important detail: Mr. Trump is not — and never was — the target of any investigation involving Russia or anything else. What the hell is being investigated by Mueller ?

As I understand it, Mueller was appointed to investigate Russian involvement in the 2016 election and any related issues. There were essentially three different entities involved in that election.

1. Trump Campaign - Neither President Trump nor any of his top campaign officials had any official government position or government power until mid January 2017. They were all private citizens, and as with all of us, had the legal right to speak with whoever they wanted and to conduct business transactions so long as they complied with existing law. We have heard many allegations but so far no real evidence of any violation of law. Mr. Comey testified that the President himself was not under investigation.

2. Clinton Campaign - There have been a number of reports of illegal activity by both Mr. Clinton and her top campaign officials. Her family foundation has had extensive financial dealings with Russian interest as well as other questionable entities. Her top campaign officials have been reported to have questionable ties to foreign entities. The DNC raised a record amount of money and the source of many contributions was questionable. The head of the DNC was removed due to questionable conduct. The head of the FBI issued a report detailing extensive misconduct but, without authority, recommended against prosecution.

3. The Obama Administration - Leading up to and for two months following the election, the Obama Administration was in total control of the Executive branch of the government. They controlled all investigative and intelligence agencies as well as the State and Justice Departments. There have been creditable reports of illegal handling of foreign intelligence intercepts and improper release of sensitive information to news media. The FISA court released a report detailing misconduct. Evidence of possible collusion by AG Lynch has been shown.

Obviously, following his mandate, Mr. Mueller would look at all three entities involved. The Trump campaign would receive the most public attention as they won and are currently in power. By most fair accounts, that part of the investigation has resulted in nothing of substance. The Clinton Campaign, including her foundation is more fertile ground and will take longer to sort out. The Obama administration misuse of foreign intelligence is probably the most serious part of the investigation and is the one most likely to result in criminal charges. Unfortunately, in the current climate, the news media will not give any attention to either the Clinton or Obama parts of the investigation, but that does not mean they are not being looked at seriously.
