First off it’s a reoccurring cycle where advance nations have a drop off in population, embrace decadence and are invaded by illiterate barbarians. The most notable example is Rome. But the same cycle happened with the Bronze age Mycenaean, Hittite, and Egyptian empires who we all conquered by barbarian sea peoples.
The notable thing about most overthrows of this nature is the culture who the conquering tend to be extremely patriarchal. It’s surmised that men who have a secure family life were they’re wives can’t take their families and wealth at will tend to invest more in their children and fight harder in battle. Patriarchal families also produce children 6-10 to 1 compared to non-patriarchal systems. Great arms are easily negated if you don’t have the man power to use it.
You can have all the tech advantages in the world but if your men won’t fight for you then your conquest is assured. See France 1940 for a great example. And in the west today no one is lower status or more despised than white males. Do you really think white males will defend the west when they’re treated like utter crap?
Finally we’ve already let the Barbarians through the gates. The borders of Rome held for a very long time, but we’re inviting them in.
