Schools should be rightly intended to augment what the child learns at home, not the way around. Children in earlier times had only the Bible to read, and perhaps if they could afford it, an English primer. Their mothers or fathers read with them every night by fireside or candlelight. They were far, far more literate than today’s youth who can’t pour piss from a boot.
