Amazing Running Shot
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 6/12/2017 | J Walsh

Posted on 06/12/2017 7:22:35 AM PDT by w1n1

This hunter dropped a buck on the run with a quick shotgun blast. Check out this footage of a hunter in Norfolk County, Ontario, shooting a 12-gauge shotgun, make an incredible running shot on a big whitetail buck.

Making that kind of running shot can’t be easy, and there’s nothing like having a GoPro capture it all to remember it forever.

In case anyone is wondering what he was shooting, this hunter Justin Walsh said: "I live and hunt in Norfolk County (Ontario). I was shooting a 12 ga. Remington 870 with the slug barrel, Winchester Super-X Sabot Slug 2-3/4″ 1 Ounce."

It's a different kind of hunting than others are used to when shooting with a scope. In this case Justin is using old fashion iron sights, as if skeet shooting. See the shotgun footage here.

Longtime hunters are invariably the best shooters.

Hard to read original article when a stupid movie is playing over it and there’s no off button.

Nice shot but when one has shot running deer several times one learns how to do it and it isn’t that hard.

The learning curve can be a while. Heck this one was in the wide open and the shooter didn’t have to worry about trees or brush.

I shot dozen or so deer before I killed my first one on a full out run.

I said that’s how it s done and have killed dozens on the run since.

Agreed, but nothing is that hard once you know how to do it.

Most folks lead by too far...even when they learn to track the route with the barrel.

At 50yds (the shot in the video), 1 ft is plenty.

Of course a 12ga slug will drop anything no matter where you hit it.

I shot an antelope in Wyoming. He was running L to R at an angle away from me. When I pulled the trigger he flipped, @$$ over tincups, just like if you’d shoot a rabbit running full out. But I led him a bit too much. Instead of hitting his shoulder, the bullet entered behind his right ear and exited his left eye. He was dead before he hit the ground.

Shooting deer is too damned easy. Running with a loaded gun, finger in trigger, like some out of control impulsive kid to shoot a deer you can walk up and pat on the head is beyond stupid.

There is a reason the 12 ga. Remington 870 is one of the most popular guns ever made.

Big deal. I dropped my first deer at 16 with a running heart shot. I dropped a deer 270 yards out with a hand loaded 30-30 shell with one shot. He was running full out across a grass field. (115 grain heated up to 2650 FPS compared to 1925 factory load.)

Drop a squirrel with a .22, running shot at 50 yards. That would impress me. I did head shoot a running cottontail with a .357 hip shot once but that was pure luck.
