Operation Food Search is launching an expanded summer program this week, providing free meals to children under the age of 18 who would normally eat breakfast and lunch at school.

Some of the meals will come from food truck-like vans.

Starting Monday and continuing through Aug. 11, program leaders plan to distribute more than 100,000 meals to hungry children in St. Louis and St. Louis County, exceeding last year’s record. The summer program, now in its sixth year, has grown from providing 5,000 meals in 2012, Executive Director Sunny Schaefer said....

We had something like that when I was growing up. We called her Mom.

Why do so many urban (black) parents refuse to feed their own children?

Yup. Mostly pbjs but sometimes a slice of baloney between two slices of white bread.

Tasted great every day.

there’s SO much fighting over school lunches and cafeterias.
maybe we should go back to parental care
and let mom or dad teach kiddo how to pack a decent nutritious lunch for him/herself?
it would end all the fighting, save a ton of money, and remove the opportunity for the next MicheleObammy to try to force-feed our children with oats and broccholi

>>We had something like that when I was growing up. We called her Mom.<<

We were extremely poor. But there was always food. I learned to shop wisely going with my mom.

All this “feed hungry kids” crap does is free up money for drugs.

Do they have to do anything to get these meals? I hate this crap. Pretty soon these people will truly be completely devoid of self respect and then society will have to deal with feral humans who are incapable of discerning any kind of societal norms.

what school=provided lunches teach our kids is to look to government for their every need in life

it is a very bad message for our youth

let their parents help, teach them how to pack a good lunch for themselves. good training for our kids to at least learn how to feed themselves

and if the ingredients are healthy kinds, then a good PB&J sandwich can be very nutritious, too. toss in an orange and you’ve got a pretty decent start on a healthy and not-expensive lunch, easy enough for kids to learn how to prepare (tho maybe not easy enough for today’s incompetent “parents” to teach kids how to prepare)

Same thing is happening in San Antonio, TX. Free breakfast and lunch throughout the summer. I know these people get food stamps, is that not enough? Just asking?

Of course kids can’t be responsible for their irresponsible parents. There lies the problem

We were poor too. My mom always made us breakfast and a lunch and dinner. I also fed my kids.

There already are many multi-generational ferals. Look around. Are all parents of these support starving children meth heads or heroin addicts?

Here in San Diego County, they also do the “free school lunches” when no school is in session. Several parks, schools, community centers, and Boys and Girls clubs are used to host the giveaways. The free lunches are available to all children, there are no income requirements.
