Most people do not know the Japanese put civilians, men, women and children into concentration camps when the Philippines fell at the beginning of WWII in the Pacific when Clarks Field fell as Pearl Harbor was being bombed. Three years later we were liberated from places like Los Banos and Santo Tomas.
What is fantastic is that the liberators were US troops aided and abetted by Philippine guerillas. I was almost 7 years old when I saw the paratroopers ‘flying down’ from the sky. We were literally saved us from execution that very morning by those men. The trench was already dug and waiting.
Can I look at anyone in a United States military uniform without honor, awe and love? Not a chance. My own son has gone on to achieve honor in the Special Forces. Do I honor him? Absolutely.
Absolutely. I do not understand why people do not respect and honor our troops and their leaders. I do understand bad apples in the barrel. Let’s get rid of those but honor all the others.
I read about this years ago. IIRC it was the 507th Airborne Infantry. Truly, saved by the grace of God.
We watched “Hacksaw Ridge” with the kids last night. The conciencous objector that became a medic, and was credited with saving 75 guys by himself. (The army said he was more - he said it wasn’t that many - so they compromised at 75!).
I told my kids that every war - every battle - has guys that go above and beyond. And that every single person out there is a hero for putting their butt on the line for us and our freedoms.
I told them the story of Sgt. Paul Smith (MOH) from the Iraq War that died while defending his troops and their wounded. And countless others.
God Bless Kruger and all the others that have served and died.
