Saturday Night Lives new Weekend Update team of Michael Che and Colin Jost have had to deal with more real backlash than most fake news anchors.
Jost has been criticized for a joke he did about transgendered people. Ches been lambasted for comments he made about street harassment and racism in Boston. But yet they still soldier on, all in the name of comedy.
GQ recently caught up with the co-hosts, interviewing them about the state of comedy in 2017 and what its like on Weekend Update in the Trump era.
In regards to whether people are too sensitive these days, Che told the magazine, I think that people are too aware that their voice can make a change. They know If I put my opinion out there and I get a hundred people to agree with me, we can maybe hit the lotto and get this mother fired.'
In response to critics who said SNL gave Trump too much airtimewhich conversely helped him win the electionthe two say you cant blame them or their show.
Said Jost:
He had a hit TV show on NBC for 14 years! He was covered by every major newspaper for 30 years. The idea that any one person humanized Hes been the most human figure for decades. The reason he won is because he knows how to use the media and hes a great communicator, whether you agree with the message or not.
Jost also explains that, even though SNL had Hillary Clinton as a guest, Trump was the only candidate insane enough to host the show.
Watch a recent episode of Weekend Update below.
Sounds like he grudgingly likes Trump.
Put another way, Trump has guts.
SNL stopped being a comedy show and started being the DNC’s “comedy” disinformation cell when Ronald Reagan was elected, and they’ve never looked back.
Yep, it really frustrates me, to think that you have to be liberal, to think that the jokes on these so called comedy shows are funny.
How many times did they ever skewer Obama about anything???
I watched most of a SNL episode just for kicks a couple weeks ago. The weekend update was mildly funny, but the rest of the show was simply crap. Unfunny, bash republicans and conservatives unfunny crap.
Before the election, he wrote an episode of "Black Jeopardy," a recurring skit where all contestants on Black Jeopardy and the host are black, with the exception of one hapless white contestant who can't get any of the questions right. In this episode, guest Tom Hanks played "Doug," a poor blue collar white Trump supporter. In this skit, however, "Doug" is actually able to get several questions right. In an interview Michael Che said he wrote it that way because blacks have a lot more in common with poor whites than rich lilly white progressives.
Entertainers know the twisted bullies live among the Left. It’s why they’re comfortable pissing on the Right.
We had another President who was known as a great communicator as well...
The two most unfunny news people in SNL history
