Sullivanin spite of living a life that is quite contradictory to bothhas long claimed to be a conservative and a Christian.
I used to read Sullivan's blog around 9/11 - he was genuinely shocked and came out strongly in favor of military action both in Afghanistan and Iraq. He soon turned hard left, wrote his mea culpa and started denouncing Bush, and as far as I could tell, the sole reason was because Bush did not come through for him on gay rights.
I don't doubt that he's a Christian, in the style of watered-down, timid Christianity that hangs on in Western Europe today under a growing tide of Islam. But I have no idea why Sullivan considers himself a conservative by any modern definition of the word.

But I have no idea why Sullivan considers himself a conservative by any modern definition of the word. One could make the same case--though, admittedly, there is only ONE defn. to consider--when it comes to Sullivan and Christianity.

Andrew Sullivan is conservative in the same way that he represents “decency”.
