12 Millennial Women On Earning Money Through A Side Hustle
Bustle ^ | May 9, 2017 | Natalia Lusinski

Money is a feminist issue — and yet, women are still reluctant to talk about it. According to a recent Bustle survey of more than 1,000 Millennial women, more than 50 percent of people said they never discuss personal finances with friends, even though 28 percent reported feeling stressed out about money every single day. That's why Bustle launched Grown-A$$ Finances, a series that gets real about what Millennial women are doing with their money, and why — because managing your money should feel empowering, not intimidating.

A lot of people have side jobs in addition to their full-time ones, and there's even a #sidehustle hashtag on Twitter. Because, truth be told, oftentimes, one job is not enough — whether you need the extra money to pay off student loan debt or to put towards your emergency or vacation fund.

In fact, according to research by Harris Poll on behalf of CareerBuilder, wherein they surveyed 3,200 full-time workers in the private sector across all industries and company sizes, a LOT of Millennials have side gigs. The findings included 39 percent of workers ages 18-24 and 44 percent of workers ages 25-34. So, it may be more popular than you think. What were these supplemental jobs that their research discovered? They ranged from blogging and website design to bartending and childcare....

“Money is a feminist issue”

Bullstalin.

Feminism as established by NOW is a Marxist issue and Marxism isn’t about money for the people. It’s about Socialism and smashing the established order.

Sidehustle == unreported income (often cash or giftcards).

“whether you need the extra money ...to put towards your ...vacation fund.”

Sandra Fluke cried about being unable to afford her birfer control meds and then used the saved cash to go on vacation (to the Mediterranean if I recall) with her boyfriend.

Yeah. Men NEVER have to worry about money.

We are so empowered and all.

Gad, I wish all these people would just jump in a hole.

Really? My friends and I often talk about money: half-price day at The Salvation Army, the ghastly cost of medical care for our kids with Issues, whether you're cheap enough to hire my son to mow your lawn ...

Maybe it's different because we're in our 50s and 60s.

“...even though 28 percent reported feeling stressed out about money every single day.”

Duh!!!! No kidding that people at the age of 22 feel stressed out about money. That stress is designed to motivate you to earn more money.

Get to work, snowflakes....

There are several very interesting small businesses mentioned, including a young lady who is raising and selling purebred rabbits and another organizing resale-boutique parties. I think it’s very nice when people have good ideas and are working at them.

#7: "Men NEVER have to worry about money. We are so empowered and all."

You forgot White People!! Don't you know that white people are privileged, white men even more so! Every time a white man goes to the bank, the bankers hand him an envelope full of free money! White men never have to worry about money.

So cute that they think this is new. I always have a side hustle going on. It’s just not as intense as my early 20’s. I financed vacations by babysitting and dog sitting and that was years ago. I’ve done stints as a transcriptor, tutor, tried my hand at blogging and handle plants for several neighbors when they are out of town. I have friends that tended bar, worked as valets, doormen, coatchecks, catering servers etc. It was never enough to support yourself, but the few hundred or so a month got people nicer stuff and minimized debt. It’s called commerce.

LOL, I don't know why, but it reminded me of the SNL sketch with Eddie Murphy in:

"White Like Me".

"Slowly I began to realize...when White People are alone, they give things to each other!"

Yes, I agree. But wait, it’s all about “privilege,” so shouldn’t we feel terrible?

But seriously, I used to work full time at an insurance company and nights at a law office. I never thought of that as a “side hustle”: it just sounds so tacky. Back in the 90s, we called it “having two jobs.”

Side-hustle sounds like you’re “putting one over” on someone.

Something under the table, something on the down-low, something possibly illicit.

How many of them are accurately reporting their taxes?

I know. But if you're selling a product, like a rabbit, or a service, like dog-walking, at a price the customer wants to pay, that's just free enterprise.

It could be that people babysitting, dog-walking, plant-sitting aren't paying taxes. My teenaged daughters don't keep track of that kind of earnings. They don't make enough all year to pay income tax, but someone for whom this is an addition to a full-time job would.

I paid taxes as an independent contractor on my night job, because my employer wanted to deduct my wages from his sole-proprietor income.

There are people who are bringing home a liveable income (even in NYC) walking dogs tax free. And that includes paying rent.
