New study from Stanford University confirms what conservatives have been saying for years: most people (liberals included) recognize that handguns are better protection than calling the police in violent situations.
Here are the key points from the study, which focused on California:
1) Handgun sales spike after mass shootings (account for 10% of total handgun sales in a given year).
2) Most of those buyers are 1st-time buyers.
3) The main reason cited by said buyers was "personal protection".
4) In California, handgun sales are up 300% in the last decade alone, greatly exceeding population growth.
The study is lie.
I have been doing my own informal study since 2008 and gun sales shot through the roof with the installation of Obama as Precedent.
Now that he is gone sales are abysmally low.
I know I purchase and arsenal in 2008 because of him.
Even if the study were correct about the timing of purchases being tied to mass shootings, it really is the language of politicians that compelled many to purchase but, make no mistake, it all started with Obama in 2008.
Well, my wife and I have done our part. Particularly back when the “single-shot exemption” was still law. Also, we just received our non-resident Utah CFP’s which are good in 37 states currently and may be “good” here in CA after the FG passes CCW Reciprocity. Anyway, if and when they pass that law, it will be fun to watch the legal antics of states like CA. They will “go ballistic!”
I agree, Obama was a big motivating factor. But I’d need to see some data that shows sales are down dramatically.
Well, how about this?
“California Department of Justice statistics show that semiautomatic rifle purchases rose from 154,000 weapons registered with the state in 2015 to 365,000 registered with the state between Jan. 1 and Dec. 9 this year. The year began with state lawmakers returning to session vowing to tighten gun-control laws in the wake of last Decembers San Bernardino massacre.”
And now sales continue on AR’s that have had their “evil features*” removed. And that gives the owner an added plus because he can also remove the bullet button mag release.
*Evil Features:
1. Collapsable Stock
2. Pistol Grip
3. Flash Hider
#’s 1 and 2 can be handled by the installation of a Thordsen stock
#3 requires exchanging the A2 Flash Hider with one of the many Muzzle Brakes on the market
I have one so equipped, and it’s more comfortable to shoot than a conventional AR.
And to think, back in 1982 California attempted to register guns and ban new handgun sales there with Prop 15. Guaranteed to pass by HCI, it failed miserably at the voting booth.
Since that time the politicians have been circumventing the will of the people one anti-gun nibble at a time.
According to a 2013 PEW Research Center survey, the household gun ownership rate in rural areas was 111 percent greater than in urban areas. Suburban households are 28.6 percent more likely to own guns than urban households. Despite lower gun ownership, urban areas experience much higher murder rates. One should not put much weight on this purely cross-sectional evidence at one point in time. But it is hard to overlook the fact that so much of the country has both very high gun ownership rates and few, if any, murders.
To put it simply, murder isnt a nationwide problem; its a problem in a very small set of urban areas.

John R. Lott, Jr.is the president of the Crime Prevention Research Center and the author more recently of The War on Guns.

I know manh people who are freaked about Proposition 63, which is so far reaching and was passed under the threat of it will be deemed law anyway.
It will be found unconstitutional and luckily with no severability clause the whole thing dies...
CA would have Reciprocity only if they issue CCWs.
They now do, but might revoke CA CCWs, so out of state would not have Reciprocity in CA.
For the children.
