Because money laundering is the central skill required to be a rich community organizer, second only to shaking down businesses by threat of violence backed up by real violence just to keep it real.
People pay you to organize riots and strikes, and then people pay you to go away. Its a pretty good gig. But the money often gets laundered in through phony organizations, or government grants for phony programs that you are supposedly carrying out. Its a scam, but no one ever digs too deep.
