This is a breaking news story, and it will be written in a rough form as I get the news. First of all, we have the AP saying: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A power outage struck a wide area of San Francisco on Friday, blacking out about 90,000 utility customers, snarling traffic as intersection signals went dark and stopping the famed cable cars for a time.
Pacific Gas & Electric crews were assessing the problem and there was no immediate estimate for restoration of electricity.
Brent Chapman, who works in billing and reporting for First Republic Bank, told his team to go home after huddling on a sidewalk and waiting for word of when power would be restored.
His team had been ready to send out a finished project Friday, one theyd been working on for six months, after some had pulled an all-nighter.
Its brutal. This is seriously the worst possible time that this could have happened, he said. I do not want to leave. I want to stay and get this done.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported (http://bit.ly/2pN3o6b ) the outage also affected the Presidio, and KRON-TV reported effects stretched to the Marina/Cow Hollow area.
San Francisco has a population of about 850,000.

Emergency crews to conduct search and rescue drill
The Associated Press

LAKEHURST, N.J. (AP) Emergency crews want to see how they would respond to a large explosion in New Jersey.
Theyll converge on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on Friday for Operation Fallout.
The drill is designed to develop and assess capabilities for search and rescue incidents. State responders will work with the National Guard to transport personnel and equipment.
Responders will search and rescue victims trapped in confined spaces and rubble.
Then here is this:
A power outage at a midtown Manhattan subway station caused widespread delays during the morning commute on Friday.
Two Japanese Navy destroyers have joined the carrier strike group USS Carl Vinson heading towards the Korean Peninsula for a massive show of force as North Korea prepares to mark the 85th anniversary of the foundation of its military.
The Japanese warships, destroyers Ashigara and Samidare, left the navys Sasebo base early on Friday for a rendezvous with the USS Carl Vinson group off North Korean shores, NHK reports.
Defense Ministry officials said the details of the joint US-Japan naval exercise are yet to be determined. The drill comes as an apparent show of force aimed at deterring North Korea, which will mark the 85th anniversary of the foundation of its military next week.
Though little is known about the naval exercise, the event was announced by the Japanese Navy earlier last week.
Japan wants to dispatch several destroyers as the Carl Vinson enters the East China Sea, said one of the Japanese military sources, as cited by Reuters.
The source added that the drills would involve helicopter landings on both American and Japanese ships as well as communications training.
The American strike group includes Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson with her air wing, Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy, as well as Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain.
The strike group will operate in the region under the operational control of the 3rd Fleet as part of the 3rd Fleet Forward initiative, according to the US Navy.
Its arrival to the Western Pacific was marked by a string of conflicting statements from the White House and the Pentagon. Last week, US President Donald Trump told Fox Business Networks Maria Bartiromo that we are sending an armada, very powerful. We have submarines, very powerful far more powerful than the aircraft carrier.
The news, however, was downplayed by US military officials after it emerged that the strike group was heading to Australia instead of the Korean Peninsula. Some American media reported that the USS Carl Vinson and her escort ships were operating near Indonesia.
Further, we have this: https://www.rt.com/usa/385606-us-navy-f18-crash/
A fighter pilot was forced to eject during an attempted landing on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the Celebes Sea, south of the Philippines, the US Navy has said. The pilot was recovered safely.
The F/A-18E fighter jet, which was part of Carrier Air Wing 2, was on final landing approach after conducting routine flight operations, US 7th Fleet Command said in a statement. The incident is under investigation.
There are no apparent injuries at this time, the Navy said, noting that the pilot has been evaluated by medical personnel aboard the Carl Vinson.

1. Emergency Services periodically run exercises to test the ability to respond to various scenarios.
2. Power outages occur in large cities.
3. The US Navy occasionally has exercises with our allies, particularly ones near North Korea.

Our city has two active shooter drills, a air show disaster drill, and a baby abduction in the next two weeks.
They have been planned for about eight months.
Drills happen this time of year because the weather is nice and people are not on vacation.
Exactly, plus power outages have been going since the dawn of the industry.
However, some people think that if the power is off for two hours we’ll get rioting, cannibalism, martial law, and zombies...
