With tax day upon us, Id like to remind everyone who works hard, applies themselves, and becomes as resourceful as they can to make a living for their families that their tax dollars are being used as welfare payments to those who do not or will not work and to those who work only enough to game the system.
And for that we can thank the politicians who continuously grow welfare benefits in order to keep the welfare recipients voting them in every couple of years, so they can create more and more dependency that we have to pay for. A week ago a good friend of mine stopped by for a visit and said that the company her husband worked for hired a couple of new guys a month ago. Both of the new guys quit after receiving their first checks because they were upset about losing their SNAP benefits. What a country! If a couple of guys down the street from you broke into your home and stole money from you, it would be a crime. But luckily, we have putrid politicians who do it for them, and its all legal. Those fellas didnt want to have to make their own money to buy food; they wanted you and me to buy them food. Its enough to make you sick. And dont start the crocodile tears about how bad poverty is and how tough it is to live on minimum wage. Those of us who are the working class, who are the forgotten man, have been there. We got through. Sometimes you have to lower your standards. Sometimes you have to shop at Goodwill, and sometimes you cant afford name brands so what? If you dont apply yourself at a job that is willing to hire you, then what good are you to the nation? Does anyone even get that those who will not work are draining not only our resources, but our strength? Its sickening that the government has created such a mass of people who believe it is normal to receive their income from the government without working for it. And on top of that, Obamacare worsened the situation for so many by cutting back the hours of those willing to work and throwing them upon the welfare rolls, too! Between the many who cannot work as much as they need to and the many who are opposed to working for their own food and the food they put into the mouths of their kids, its simply maddening. At this point, the government has to cut way back on all of the welfare programs, or our country is gone.
Last year, the federal government paid out $67 billion in Earned Income Tax Credits, or EITC. This is the money you pay those who work but dont make enough money, according to the government. Every year you give them some of your money that the federal government has confiscated from you under threat of jail and/or fines. Of that $67 billion, usually between 21 and 29 percent is paid out improperly. In the year 2015, $15.6 billion was sent out due to fraud or improper calculation. That is bad enough, but then places like the Brookings Institute actually produce policy papers urging the government to begin to pay out windfall payments of EITC in increments so as to keep the recipients in cash all year. It seems that if you give people a whole lot of money they didnt earn in one big check, they blow it. I wonder if the Brookings Institute ever heard of savings accounts? The United States labor participation rate is behind 30 other countries and stands at about 63 percent. President Trump can boast that hes creating jobs, but the fact remains he needs to get a lot of welfare recipients off of the government dole and into a job somehow. You cant promise someone a do-nothing job that will pay them as much as they are getting to sit around at home, but you can cut their bennies until they have to go out and find work. There is no other way. And once again, whenever I write about welfare recipients, I have to add in the obligatory comment that of course everyone on welfare is not trying to scam the government, nor is everyone on welfare able to work. Duh. But there are enough of them who are scamming and who do game the system in order to get out of work that it really burns up those of us working and doing our best not to be a burden on others. Another major problem with welfare right now is the massive amount of welfare fraud. Heres one case that involved $37,000 in fraudulent benefits; heres another that racked up $29,000; heres a massive bust in Wisconsin at a liquor store; and heres a really good reason illegal immigrants like America so much our nation is one giant feeding trough. The socialists like to say that conservatives are heartless for trying to cut welfare, but its the other way around. Socialists, in the form of progressives, democrats, communists, and liberals, create masses of people who are taught to never achieve and that their politicians will create a collective where they will be able to get what they need to survive. But that always keeps these people dependent upon others, never understanding independence and accomplishment. They create a sea of people who, even if they wanted to get out of their circumstances, find themselves unable to break free of the chains of underachievement and mediocrity and it is a crime against humanity. Today, on tax day, those of us who are in hard times and are burdened either believe we will someday get out of the fix were in with hard work or that someone will give us money for no reason. May a pox fall upon the politicians who get their clout from the latter.
more important to me is to make WORK actually mean something....like not taxing the heck out of our wages....
I don’t mind getting taxed, per-se. It’s where my tax money goes that causes me to hate being taxed.
A bit out of scope but PBS needs fed funding cut off. The killing big bird thing is just a bluff and the lib media is all to happy to oblige.
not going to happen. We might get a wall out of this, but welfare is going to stay in place until the ponzi scheme economy collapses. We would have needed millions deported, which is not happening. I wanted my head to spin, but it has yet to spin. Without those deportations, the average IQ of the US is projected to hit 85 in 19 generations. Wrap your minds around that. America can never be great if the average IQ is 85. Game over. Truth hurts.
Replace the income tax with a national sales tax -— NOT a VAT tax. It doesn’t penalize work or saving -— because the tax only happens when you spend money. So, you can make and save as much as you want -— and decide how much you want to pay in taxes by your spending choices. What a great idea!!!
My son in law a a branch manager for a bank; he sees this every year. In a couple of months it will be car repo season.
We just need to Refinance Welfare, I believe Welfare is the outcome of and a Direct Result of Government Policies, therefore I propose that ALL Welfare Payments should be Deducted From the Public Employees Paychecks within that State. A 20% assessment on the Incomes of Government Employees should be enough to get the ball rolling.
Watch how fast it is reformed and they go back to work.
If government cut our unnessary taxes, we could spread that around a whole lot.
And, how can you be an industrial powerhouse when people have no need to be industrious?
All these PSA’s about hunger...it’s a real motivator for me. Hell...I’d clean toilets if I had to. Oh! Wait:
I DID clean toilets...for a year, very recently. One of five jobs I worked after bad my decisions in my divorce.
Of course, I have semj-white privilege.
(1) What about disability fraud? Apparently rampant in the “heartland.”
(2) IQ of immigrants tends to have to do with diet, level of education (measurement bias), etc. Those factors disappear in a generation or two. They said the same thing about Jewish and Italian immigrants in the 1920s. Also, 19 generations is a long time — almost 400 years from now. What happens in 400 years isn’t really predictable.
(3) Shouldn’t people here be supportive of a tax credit for those who actually WORK but aren’t paid much?
My sister posted something from a friend. She’s been on The Disability for over 10 years. The SS admin is demanding $106k back from her for Fraud or they are cutting off her The Disability.
She is freaking. But she depends on the government for her only source of income. She got a lawyer to get her The Disability 10 years ago because it was free money. All she had to do was quit working. What could possibly go wrong?
The government giveth and the government taketh away. Obama doubled the number of people on The Disability. That number could shrink just as much and people will lose their minds. I wish I had a dollar for everyone I know on The Disability who can’t work but have a cash job.
I say pick them to work picking cotton the old fashioned way.
Go to the link to find something readable.
The "welfare mentality" is ingrained and hard to overcome.
I used to teach job-seeking skills at the state unemployment office to welfare recipients. Many were 5th and 6th generation.
Last year my wife and I retired to Spain. You would think that Spain = EU = Socialism = Welfare state. Couldn’t be any further from the truth. If you lose your job you get unemployment based on how long you’ve worked. One it runs out you’re done. No welfare, no SNAP, no disability, no nothing. They are so stingy that the few migrants who manage to sneak over from Africa keep right on going into France.
I have written a post on my experiences in Spain and how America could learn a few lessons from this Socialist country. If you’re interested in it do a search on my name.
I’m not interested in writing any books. I left FR for about a year because we moved out of the country and when I came back online I posted about what it’s like to live where I moved. It’s just a coincidence that Spain’s attitude towards welfare fits right in with the OP.
The other day Rush said that Government collected more in taxes than ever before - something like $3 BILLION dollars.
And then they turned around and SPENT $5 BILLION dollars.
It’s all Make Believe and that extra $2 BILLION doesn’t even EXIST - so why do they keep taking our money? They spend more than they take in; have for decades and decades. (Re: We are $20+ TRILLION in debt!!)
I spent a LIFETIME beating our tax system. I paid exactly what I ‘owed’ and not a dime more. If others would apply themselves, they could do it, too. I’m no Rocket Scientist.
