I think everyone is beginning to see why Trump was “successful” as a developer....but not nearly as successful as he claimed to be.

Where he was (and is) a genius is in publicity/PR/branding. (As others have pointed out. Ted Lerner is billionaire developer and he never had to sell books or water or ties to make his money).

What I don’t think he completely grasps yet is that when you are president, you don’t need to create publicity. Publicity just naturally comes to you.

It seems like he needs to jump from project to project out of blind instinct more than any real strategy.

At this point, I doubt anyone can even remotely describe what it is he wants out of a healthcare deal or a tax deal or a China deal.

Sometimes he actually hits on something powerful. His NATO gambit is actually revealing itself to be pretty useful. I still don’t think there was any great strategy there. But the president of the US saying things publically does have power.

The problem is going to be in two years if he is still just seemingly randomly jumping from idea to idea. If he’s flipped on the Ex-Im bank five times by 2019, eventually the rest of the world is just going to shut him off.

Good analysis. I concur.

I think Trump just needs to find his footing in the new job. Just like every one of his predecessors before him did. They all seemed bumbling in the first six months or so.

I suppose there are few experiences in life that can truly prepare one for being President of The United States. That said, I think Trump’s professional life prepared him better than most.

He’ll be fine.
