Poll: 57% approve of Syria airstrikes, but few want more military action

So far, the American public is behind Donald Trump in his action against the Syrian military. As long as he doesn’t get the US any deeper into Syria, Trump’s likely to keep their support. According to a new poll from CBS News this morning, taken over the weekend, fifty-seven percent of respondents approve of the airstrikes, but less than one in five Americans want to see any escalation that would involve putting boots on the ground:

President Trump’s overall approval rating edged up, though most respondents voice unease about his approach to Syria going forward, and say Congress must authorize further actions there.

Few Americans are willing to see the U.S. get involved in Syria beyond the use of airstrikes. Only 18 percent would want ground troops. Half of Republicans would limit involvement to either airstrikes or diplomacy, and Democrats largely would focus on diplomatic efforts.

While I disagree with Trump’s actions in Syria, I think (or at least hope) that this was a one-off response to the use of chemical weapons rather than a prelude to a full-fledged program of “regime change” like Libya 2011 followed by a “nation building” quagmire like Afghanistan and Iraq have been for the past 10-12 years.

If the congressccritters are so upset why hasn’t one of them risen up on the floor and started the debates on military action? They say its their job. No! Crickets from the ‘point with pride and view with alarm’ wusses on the hill. They are for the most part WORTHLESS!!!

Works for me. But I’m an Army Vet (ODS/S) that wants us to pull ALL of our troops home and let the rest of the world fend for themselves. ;)

Well, look at all that has already been accomplished. No more Victoria Nuland, though she may be waiting in the lurch, no more John Bolton, and best of all, NO MORE HILLARY CLINTON!

That alone represents progress.

If Trump actually goes "full deep state neocon",people can deal with it in millions of their own ways.

The airbase we hit, was protecting a Christian town full of beautiful ancient Roman churches, from the Jihadists we are supporting.

President Trump please WAKE UP.

If Assad goes, the 10% of the Syrian population that is Christian will be slaughtered. Assad should stay and we need to back off and let him defeat ISIS.

No more middle east wars.
And certainly no war with Russia.

Shut the chicken hawk neocons down Mr. President, and listen to the people who supported you.

...let the rest of the world fend for themselves.

We like to sing the song that our forces are overseas because of our deep commitment to our allies but much of it is about our own economic interests.

If we're there to protect our shipping and trade, that's fine. That's a part of what a military if for.

The military should not be a humanitarian charity however, and it has no business being Europe's watchdogs, or policing the bad behavior of a bunch of uncivilized people who belong to a death cult called Islam.
