Looks like Alabama’s governor is going to be impeached

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has been on the ropes for a while now. The origins of the story all boil down to allegations of improper relations with an aide which… Okay. Let’s just say it. The guy cheated on his wife with one of his staffers before divorcing her and she was less than thrilled with his behavior. Since that doesn’t technically qualify as breaking the law, you’d normally not see him getting the boot from his job unless the voters decided to do it in the next election. But the initial deed led to some complicating factors which the legislature sees as grounds for removal. After one judge put a hold on any impeachment action, the state supreme court turned that around and ruled that they could move forward.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley will face impeachment hearings beginning Monday after the state Supreme Court gave lawmakers the greenlight to move ahead with an effort to oust the governor, who is fighting to stay in office amid fallout from an affair with a top aide.

The Alabama Supreme Court on Saturday reversed a short-lived victory for Bentley when a judge on Friday blocked impeachment proceedings. After the high court’s ruling, the House Judiciary Committee quickly announced plans to proceed with hearings on Monday.

Seems like he used police resources to cover his ###.

Also, this thread is worthless without pictures of the wife and aide :)

Reportedly, the governor's advisor was paid $426,978 in 2014.

This has been brewing for a while. From a little over a year ago:

The guy, in his late 50’s, after having established a fairly profitable health business empire....got into politics. Around 2009/2010, this gal (Rebekah Mason) more or less selected him as a vehicle into the governor’s office. He had zero talent for the job....zero speech ability.

So she gets him into office, and then has him hire her for roughly $400,000 a year....with her husband as part of the deal as well. Around 2014, Bentley’s wife finally figures out the affair, dragging five or six state employees into this and triggering a public episode.

He’s about as naive as you can get....no common sense. At some point in 2014, his kids suspect that he’s even showing signs of dementia.

GOP in the state only see the guy as some useful way into the Senate (because Sessons left). There’s some rumors that Shelby will retire by summer, and Bentley will appoint another of the state senators into this job....so everyone is keeping their mouth shut and hoping to get this over soon.

It’s past time.

I just read an article from the “Alabama Political Reporter” that Bentley will step down tomorrow. They stated that he is preparing his resignation tonight.

What an embarrassment.

Since I am currently overseas, I will probably be curled in the arms of Morpheus when he resigns. The list is on my profile page. Ping away!
