When youve lost Maverick The man who engineered a 2005 compromise to break up a Senate logjam on judicial confirmations threw in the towel this afternoon. John McCain, the leader of the Gang of 14, says that there is no opening for a compromise with Democrats on the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch, reports Bloombergs Laura Litvan.
Nuclearmas, here we come:
John McCain just told me he's giving up on idea of a deal that will avert nuclear option fight in Senate

The Bolshie ‘RATS need to look at getting nuked as winning the Harry Reid Memorial Participation Trophy.
I want to run over the democrats rough shod as they did us with 0care.
The senate needs to ram all of Trump’s judicial picks through, at every level. The President has an enormous responsibility to pack the courts with judges who will rule based on the Law. Not on feelings. Not on preferred outcome. Just the law applied to a set of facts.
That means two, his poodle Linda will follow along.
I am rooting for the democrats to stay stupid and filibuster. Republicans are consistently dumb, and the dems are perfectly capable of making equally catastrophic mistakes.
I want the nuclear option, now, with Gorsuch.
- It’s “Scalia’s seat”, so it doesn’t change the balance of power in the Court.
- Gorsuch is amazingly qualified, so there is no debate on whether he should be confirmed.
- This is the time for that tradition to die.
We want this today, so that President Trump’s second (and third, and perhaps fourth) nominee can make it through under the Gorsuch precedent, no matter who that nominee may be or who is being replaced. As for later consequences, there there may not be a “later” to worry about. The wheels could very well be coming off, and we need to look at what we can do to set up maximum freedom and preparedness in whatever time America has remaining. Today is what matters for SCOTUS and the law.
That only leaves Collins
The world’s most deliberative body needs to get off the pot and sheet ...
As someone said the Democrats are so fanatical they would not vote for Mr. Smith or Christ himself.
I also want to trample the Democrats and crush them.
I just wonder how many potential candidates are left in the nation who believe in the Constitution.
Elections have consequences, someone once said. We know what the Democrats would do to get their nominee through if they has 52 Senators.
They need to be squashed underfoot like the cockroaches they are.
I agree with you.
“That only leaves Collins”.
Heard in Rush earlier today that she will be voting yes.
I came to FR just now seeking an answer to this very question. I figured McCain and Lindsay Graham would throw a wrench into the works. Do we know about Graham yet?
I want to see the Republicans go on the offensive and run ruthless right over these leftists.

Yes to confirm, unknown on nuclear option

Susan Collins seems to be the only GOP Senator whose vote on nuking the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees is still up in the air, which means Democrats will lose their ability to filibuster Trump's possible next nominee if they do not blink in the next few days.
