Loretta Young comes across pretty well here, which is good since she has long been known as a Hollywood conservative. Raped, refused an abortion, made things okay for herself and her baby. It would have been better to get justice for the rape, but almost an impossible proposition at the time.

No kidding here. I still have several Confidental magazines from the 40’s and 50’s. None from the 30’s and I don’t remember if there’s any from the early 60’s.

There was a movie “Hollywoodland” about the death of George Reeves. One of the characters was Toni Mannix. I wonder if she was the wife of the guy in this story.
It was a pretty good movie but did not claim to be true. Still it had a scenario in which Reeves was murdered and the crime covered up.
That sounds more believable after reading this article.

My favorite Hollywood era is the 40's - incredible films and actors. The 50's would be second favorite.
What a hot mess LA was back then, but the films didn't suffer. Makes you wonder, with all the personal turmoil, did it enhance the artistic endeavor....

Nowadays, in an atmosphere as depraved as Hollywood’s, there’s no such thing as a “scandal.”

I know many people like to beleive we are a more immoral society today, but sometimes I wonder. Being a student of history, and talking to my friends parents (who grew up in the 50s and 60s) it just seems that people hid it and were ashamed when caught. Now nobody hides it, they actually flaunt it.
