"Is Obamacare Republicans Waterloo?" That was the question a reporter posed a couple weeks ago. Its the narrative increasingly being pushed by the media, and starting to become conventional wisdom in Washington.
My response? What the press doesnt understand is that Obamacare, in practice, has proven to be a disaster, and its hurting millions of people. Weve had three elections that focused on Obamacare repeal, 2010, 2014 and 2016. All three were massive victories for Republicans. If thats Waterloo, we could use a few more of them.
So, how do we go forward? Here are two overarching principles, three concrete steps and six areas of consensus to guide us.

“Those six ideas enjoy virtual unanimity among Republicans who now control both Congress and the White House. They bring all of us together. They dont replace one massive federal entitlement that isnt working with another massive federal program with the same failings.”
I am not sure where Cruz actually fits on this anymore.
Being a strict Constitutionalist, he knows that healthcare isn’t in the Federal domain, that it is ILLEGAL for the feds to have authority.
From here:
“Cruz Works Behind Scenes to Change Obamacare Repeal Bill”
March 10, 2017
I think its important that we get it right, and I spent much of yesterday having very productive conversations with senators, House members and multiple leaders in the administration about how we get the job done, Cruz said. The House bill thats currently drafted I dont believe will pass the Senate, but I believe we can fix it.
The Republicans never intended to repeal Obamacare.
It was a great vote-getter, but then Trump won and screwed everything up for them.
Looking at them flailing around now, I have to wonder which party is destroying itself quicker.
Cruz is having a private meeting with Trump tomorrow if I remember correctly. Should be helpful to the situation.
The way Ryancare is being phased in with a 2020 showdown for phase III seems like a setup to kill his re-election.
The point is to get rid of the Federal health care tax, as it exists right now. And put in place a framework that does not require a big federal agency. Anyway most the Federal government is extra Constitutional, commerce clause and all that.
” extra Constitutional”
Is that polite way is saying ILLEGAL?
A polite way of saying TYRRANY?
A polite way of shackeling our children? Of just letting them do it. Rolling over...
It will be the current Republicans’
‘Waterloo’ if they do not repeal it, I mean REPEAL it root and branch instead of shifting some terms around and changing some titles which is what they desire to do. The corruption is such that we cannot get a handle on the Congress or the Republicans without wholesale imprisonments, at least.
Well, yes, it is all that.
It’s been going on for what? Six decades or more now? It needs to change, but impossible to change overnight and now probably needs Constitutional amendments to fix what the Supreme Court has done.
He’s been standing with Paul and Lee for full repeal.
Whose re-election? President Trump’s, Speaker Ryan’s, or Senator Cruz’s?
Trump. The RINOs are setting a trap.
What do you think is all the discussions between Cruz and Trump?
Is Cruz able to talk any sense into Trump on this issue?
Make everyone aware that Cruz is up for re-election in 18. Ryan is up every two years. So, ask yourself again, who is the 20 referring to?
I see this as backstabber Ryan’s way of sticking it to the king he could not bring down before the election. He has proven not to be an honest player long before that as well. Because of his 85% win this last time, he feels a relative margin of safety to be the Brutus of the establishment through parliamentarian voodoo while proclaiming to be doing the people’s business just like Pelosi behind closed doors.
Maybe someone needs a real investigation of what his net worth was before he ran for Congress and what it is now, as compared to his declared income and “investments” since.
Hopefully.
