I think they chose the word "Resistance" to liken themselves to the resistance movements in Europe during WWII, in keeping with their view that Trump is as bad as, if not worse than, Adolf Hitler.
The rioters and the media are small potatoes. The real enemy Trump faces is the Deep State. They won't give up power easily, and I fear they will resort to assassination if they see that as the only way to stop him.

They are trying to stop the will of the people as defined by the constitution.
