Remember the movie THE GODFATHER? The Mafia went from business to business extorting money from those businesses, and, of course, they paid to stay in business. Obama and his DOJ/Loretta Lynch did the very same thing to those they charged. I would say they could charge whomever they pleased, and then settlements were made. That money legally belonged to the American taxpayer, but you know where it went? Obama used it to funnel funds to Progressive groups like the National Council of La Raza. We will talk about La Raza to understand what kind of people your taxpayer dollars funded. First this is the official statement from Judicial Watch on the Obama Mafia/DOJ scheme.

This phenomenon is not peculiar to the Obama Administration.
This really ramped up during the Clinton Administration.
The Bush Administration did nothing to stop it. In fact, there was more greenmail paid to left wing groups in the Bush Administration than during the Clinton regime.
Much of the greenmail was paid by the financial industry following the repeal of certain provisions of the Glass-Stegall Act that legalized mergers subject to regulatory approval. Left-wing groups would relent on their objections to mergers in return for payoffs from the Justice Department slush fund raised from CRA settlements.
It is not legal. It is not even remotely legal. A fine is paid to the nation and the congress controls those funds. This was clearly a scheme to divert funds to partisan groups selected by administration appointees and THERE WAS NOT EVEN CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT!
This will be investigated and it won’t be flattering to the previous administration, but don’t expect much traction in the media. Can you imagine if the Bush administration had diverted funds to conservative groups?
What you are describing sounds more like a shake-down scheme than the pursuit of justice.

I was screaming 5 years ago that there was no accountability for the money coming from the huge bank fines.

Just take a look at the John & Johnson settlement relating to Risperdal that Holder settled. Why did he settle it for about a half billion dollars less than they offered? (With no admission of guilt)
Clinton & Obama also did this with the banks and Acorn in the settlement.
The banks paid as they got to issue loans that were no good and Fannie & Freddie guaranteed them. This is what caused much of the crash.

Just now emerging. Lots of folks saw it for what it was but it was spun as the Obama Admin settling wrongdoing from the financial collapse.
There were myriad laws broken by banksters, many rising to criminal felony levels, yet not one person went to jail. Obama sold “Get Out of Jail Free Cards”.
Oh, that would be so delicious. I would love to wake up one morning and hear that the Fed has attached the bank accounts of the SPLC, La RAZA, Sierra Club, The Environmental Defense Fund, et al.
Yea Bush and Clinton were corrupt too. This is a part of draining the swamp. My how the powerful have taken advantage of the people.
Yep,Obama and others in prison and the money taken back from those who received it. Our leaders being above the law is part of the corruption. I realize the legitimate ones need to be able to do their jobs. But things like this need to be punished. It wasn’t their money. What about the corporations and banks who were possible not in the wrong ?
Wait just a damn minute!
First the Feds DEMANDED that banks lend to unqualified borrowers.
Then the Dems like Frank Rains & Jamie Gorelick made Tens of Millions by bundling these non-performing loans and selling them into derivatives.
Next, the Feds came back and fined the banks for selling these non-performing loans.
This scheme enriched the Dems and to a lesser extent the banks, but the banks had no choice but to play along on both ends of the fraud.
In the end the consumer and the taxpayer are the ones hurt and unrestored.
The Dems belong in jail.
The GOP were too cowardly to act for fear of being called racist for opposing policies pretending to help the poor.
Interesting that the initial Crime occurred under Clinton, was blamed on Bush, then capitalized on by Obama.
What we have been up against is indeed every bit as ugly as you suggest.
Money laundering is what democrats do best it’s how they stay in business no surprise at all.
