How do you train for faster shooting?
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 3/3/2017 | J Hines

Among the gun circle there has been talk of the debate on pistol fast shooting methods. Some of school of thought is on trigger slapping, holding a pistol in a special way or get your smooth trigger squeeze faster, the list goes on.

Rob Leatham teaches a method that anyone can do. You don't have to be into 3GN or law enforcement. However, this type of fast shooting is the basis for personal defense and competition shooting, or whatever you're into.

Rob emphasizes that it has everything to do with pulling the trigger quickly and controlling that recoil. We do this by maintaining that strong structure when holding the pistol. There is no need to be meticulous with the trigger pull and looking concentrating on the front sights. Check out the fast shooting footage here.

If your sights are not on the target, you won’t hit the target.
If you don’t have a smooth predictable trigger pull, you’ll pull the sights off the target.
Practice accordingly.

Every system that neglects any of these points will fail you.

I would love to see someone come up with a laser
shotgun site that throws out 20 green or red dots
in a cluster. Imagine looking down and seeing ten
or fifteen centered on your chest.

Hahahahah.

Well, then, you're better at it than most. My sincere respect. As for me, I think very highly of Rule #3:

3.Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.

Double-tap if possible.

4.Only hits count. Close doesn't count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.

One needs only to use caliber and ammunition of such that follow up shot is not required. The 9mm is far to small and inherently underpowered, I do not own one. A plus P .38 in full wadcutter is devastating and very effective. Samuel Colt had the perfect start in 1872 in .45 colt.

Personally, carrying a .45 wheelgun or .44 Win Mag Desert Eagle is just too bulky for my purposes. I’ve been very comfortable with ITP 1911 for about 20 yrs (jacket or loose overshirt.

My favored carry gun is a SAA 4 inch barreled birds head grip in 45 colt. Not as large as some think, left armpit or on the hip, comes out fast hits hard with first shot. projectiles are of utmost importance, non expanding, semi hard full wadcutters. Think of the shape of a Campbels soup can, devastating to mamalian flesh. Nothing gets up after recieving that 225 grain chunk of lead.

I guess. I would think tumble factor might make it pretty messy, eh?

These do not tumble or change direction, bone or soft tissue, in +P out of my winchester 94, they pass straight through 24 inches with no change of shape, or direction. The drawback is, limited to about 65-70 yards out of rifle. Revolver range prolly 30 yards. Drop is very great. Up close and personal, well devastating.
