It works in the original format, where that repeated paragraph appears in italics.
The problem is trying to copy it here on FreeRepublic.
I know there’s a way to do bullets and italics on FreeRepublic, and it has been explained to me multiple times, but I can’t make it work. I’m technologically-challenged.
The line about the 95 million - which I repeat for effect here, is in italics in the original in Illinois Review. Not an unusual tactic; it’s just that it’s ineffective here in this format.

Don’t sweat it. The italicized line repeated throughout the original doesn’t work there, either.
The author sure uses a lot of words to say “We are a nation of laws, everybody is equal under the law, the laws need to be enforced and, if you sneak into the US, you are violating the law.”
