Jeremy S Youtuber was out testing his Gen3 Glock20SF 10mm using the Underwood Ammo Xtreme Penetrator round against a Level IIIA plate used in a bullet proof vest, to see if the round would go through. Heres what happened:
After squeezing the trigger BLAM! The shot was loud and debris peppered his face. There was a stinging feeling in his shooting hand. Once it registered in his brain what had happened he looked at the pistol. Sees the right side of his Gen3 Glock20SF frame had blown out, mag release missing.
Obviously, there were some flowery words that followed after the shot. Jeremy wished that he wore gloves while shooting but good thing he did have eye protection on. See the footage here.
fter investigating it as thoroughly as possible, it does appear to have been ammo-caused.
glad he wasn’t hurt too badly - could have been a lot worse
Blown up shooter ping.
YIKES!
Since it wasn’t a hand load, I wonder if it’ll be covered by Glock for replacement/repair under their warranty.
Always wear eye protection.
During at outing to the range last summer, I was firing Winchester “white box” through my Glock17. At one point, the chamber failed to close and I found a squib round in the barrel. I was fortunate that it didn’t get too far down the barrel as firing a round behind it surely would’ve been a bad situation. I had never experienced that and hope I never do again.
Sometimes the case would let go completely, resulting in this sort of kaboom.
“I blowed it up good!” alert.
Lucky shooter, that could have turned out far worse than it did.
If you were to watch the video, you would see that the ammo manufacturer took responsibility for quality problems and covered everything.
Good to know. Not able to watch the video yet. Getting kiddos ready for school.
WHAT??? That's child abuse - even reading about firearms with young, impressionable children about. How DARE you? /sarc
Teach them well, Randall.
The G20’s like most Glocks have that unsupported chamber which results in brass expansion and a nice big knot on the brass in the area that lacks support. I reload which is tough using a Glock due to overworking the brass.
Put an aftermarket barrel in my G20 which is a dramatic improvement.
Avoid these penetrator loads and stick to the JHP.
I had similar happen with my 30 about 13 years ago. It was determined that a combination of +P ammo, an unsupported chamber and the fact that Glocks will fire out of battery. AS in not fully locked.
Glock replaced the firearm under warranty.
FWIW; My CF was nowhere near this bad, with only the barrel, mag release and magazine being permanently damaged.
Reading this was like Deja Vu all over again.
"....and I found a squib round in the barrel." No. You found a bullet in the barrel. "rounds" are normally defined as a complete cartridge consisting of a shellcase, primer, propellant and bullet.
Please learn the correct terminology if you chose to write about ammunition.
Just watched the video. HOLY CARP! That thing went all Xplodey!
Good to know that the ammo company replaced everything -including his shorts.
Not a Glock owner, but I do have a couple of polymer framed pistols (XDm, Kahr, both in .45).
I keep thinking that if that had happened in a self defense situation....
Perhaps there’s something to the, “New York Reload.”
(Empty the first gun, grab the second gun, continue perforating)
And if you'll notice, as I did not until I had already posted it, the kaboom pic I posted was a .45 ACP Glock.
New Glocks in all calibers now have better supported chambers.
