Not sure its the same thing to have somebody emptying your bank account or using your credit card vs using your ss number to work. While both are illegal, the former seems far nastier to me.

My identity was stolen by somebody “attempting to work”. I spent over $11k on accountants and attorneys to prove I wasn't lying on my taxes and hiding income that was earned by the identity thief. So yeah, I guess it really isn't any different. Nobody charged anything on my credit card, but my life savings were lost defending myself. Same result.
