NORTHBRIDGE (CBS) As President Donald Trump signed an executive order to jump-start construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, some businesses in New England have their sights set on getting in on the project.
In a renovated Northbridge mill building are miles of steel and wire that Riverdale Mills believes can fill the promise.
The company already has experience. In 2008 it provided the materials for 23 miles of fencing on the southern border in Arizona and says it has the capacity to cover 2,000 more miles. Its wire mesh wall would be 20 feet high and five feet into the ground.
You cant get your fingers into the opening and climb it, said CEO James Knott.
He believes it would be more than a deterrent for anyone trying to cross it. Testing reveals it takes at least 40 minutes to cut through the wire.
It would buy time for security personnel to identify those people and stop them, he said.
The company is already the leader in the lobster trap industry but has seen the use of its wire wall increase over the last several years. Not only does the company believe their product would be the best and most efficient way to build the wall, but James Knott believes they fit the bill since its an American company with American jobs.
Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson has already offered to provide some manpower for the construction through the use of inmates and is convinced it can be done.
Thats what we need to do we, need to get this down to a trickle, says Hodgson.
It was the signature issue of the Trump campaign, but now at Riverdale Mills theyre looking at the potential, not the politics.
Excellent!
But..but...but... I was told that building a wall was “impossible”.
American company? Aren’t they located in Assachusetts? That’s Hillary/Warren country.
“”Excellent!””
I would agree if it was any other state besides MA - I would hate to see that state (ELIZABETH WARREN) get any federal government contracts or funds! Not only does Warren hail from there but it’s packed full of bleeding heart liberals who will obstruct Trump every inch of the way for 4 years. Let’s not do them any favors...
American company? Arent they located in Assachusetts? Thats Hillary/Warren country.
++++++++++++++++++++
I met a couple on a cruise last year from that part of MA, and they were very conservative folks. We got along great.
Warren is despised by many citizens of this state.
I’m from MA—————let’s not damn us because we are outnumbered by libs.
Silly.
..
Warren and Kerry and Frank and Romney and Kennedy (several of them) and Stubbs and Markey and on and on...
The town of Northbridge is one of the few that went for Trump.
.
“”Warren is despised by many citizens of this state.””
With the exposure she’s getting in the confirmation hearings, the whole country will be hating her before too long. What a nasty witch she is. Her questions to the nominees are insulting and disrespectful. They all pretend to be so concerned that the nominees are all WEALTHY individuals and yet insult them by implying that they will ENRICH themselves or President Trump if they are confirmed. Kind of like accusing them of what the democrats/progressives have always done. Projection is recognized from miles away!
I think you’re saying that I shouldn’t lump the whole state in the Warren column. I would agree with that ordinarily but I think a big message could be sent “clean up your state” with your representation in Congress and you too can play with us...That would go for any of the liberal states.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. If it weren’t for gerrymandering, this would be a far different state.
This is just the overture.
Gonna be lines of concrete mixers and pump trucks making a run for the border.
Sites for the precast are being mapped out, workers and engineers are being called up, orders of massive amounts of portland cement are being calculated.
The keys are being turned in the trucks to warm them up all across our nation, concrete workers are going through their traveling gear, others are planning for the workers camps, location, lodging, food, security.
The massive project has been mapped, it was just shitcanned by politicians, now a businessman will make it happen.
And i will be there. So can you.
Remember our favorite “left that other site” freeper is living back in MA....
Do you live in Massachusetts?
Never been there!
I can see this happening all over the country and who will be the ones heading to ND or MN or WI for the pipeline work? In the winter? I think they’ll head to the border in the other direction instead - at least until summer and then summer heat will drive them north... The country on the move - how great it is!
Next month i’m scheduled to be in a two week total certification course for Schwing concrete pumps near Minniapolis, very strong possibility i will be involved with the border wall, at 60 i’mstill a wrench turner and have been running concrete mixers for 22 years alone.
This part of Massachusetts is conservative.
Not damning anyone...the same is said of NY or CA and a multitude of other states. They all need to get the message and businesses are the ones that could get it out if by no other way than relocating to another state.
I still have family and friends in upstate NY whose votes mean absolutely nothing when up against the votes coming out of NYC so I know where you’re coming from.
Sadly, CA seems to be another state with Brown in charge who will ignore all the signs and continue to run the state into the ground - if it’s not already there. I don’t hold out much hope for that state. Watched it as a resident for 50+ years for myself and my husband as a CA native, until it got so bad we made our way east in retirement.
